1948
•Patty Petzinger, age 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petzinger, accidentally opened the back car door and fell out while her mother was driving between 50 and 60 mph. Amazingly, she was bruised and sore, but had no major injuries.
•In a marathon school board meeting that didn’t adjourn until 12:30 a.m., the Board discussed salaries and teacher shortages. They offered the teachers the same salaries as last year.
•The following sophomores earned letters at the sports banquet: George Elliott, Earl Miller, Frank McKasson, Don Preuss, Dick Gholson, and Hayward Rogers.
•Due to a coal miners’ strike, the New London Electric Light Dept. asks all patrons to conserve on lights and power.
•Virgil Church will serve as Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scout troop during the coming year.
•Business places in New London will close from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon for the Good Friday serves to be held at the Church of Christ.
•This week at the Alamo: “Road to Rio” starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby and “Easy Come, Easy Go” starring Barry Fitzgerald.
1973
•Garrels Motors has outgrown their current location and will be moving to 301 West Main Street into the former Standard Service Station.
•Vandals have done considerable damage to Burge Cemetery. Anyone with any information is urged to go to the police.
•The Senior Interview this week: Tim Wilkinson.
•Oetken Surge Inc. is celebrating 20 years in business. Vernon Oetken, President, Larry Moravec, VP and employees Dave Kempker, Diane Carter, Jim Cox, Dorothy Warth, and Mark Oetken appreciates the business they have enjoyed and hope to continue to provide the best service to their customers.
1998
•NL police have been busy with recent robberies that include Walgren’s Market, The Haven, Cenex Service Station, and Darb’s Lanes. The police are asking citizens to report any suspicious behavior.
•Old Threshers have announced their country music lineup: Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Sammy Kershaw, and Mark Chesnutt.
•Maggie Venable and Randy Lamm announce their engagement and approaching marriage. Maggie is the daughter of Ann and Harry Venable. Randy is the son of Kent and Sheila Lamm.
•Obituaries this week: Keith Wright and Dorothy Haist.
•Senior Interviews this week: Travis Manning, Michelle Schweitzer, Johnny Winchell, and Jamie Strawhacker.

•The grand prize winners of the annual Easter egg hunt were Zane Buck, 7, Presley Myers, 5, and Talon DeHart, 2.
•Senior Spotlights this week: Baylee Ann Lindell and Abigail Margaret Noel.
•Stanley W. Davis and Charley A. Lorber made the Indian Hills Winter Academic Honor Roll.
•Audrey Williamson has returned home from Loyola University in Chicago where she underwent heart surgery. Her daughter Sheila is staying with her.
