1948
- Mr. and Mrs. Phil Westerbeck will host a Christmas Eve supper followed by a gift exchange. Invited guests are Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Willits, Karen Sue and Johnny; Mr. and Mrs. Bill McKinnon and Jeffrey; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Byrum and Michael; and Duane Westerbeck.
- Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gipple entertained the Coffee Shop employees to a Christmas dinner. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patterson and Leatrice; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wellington; Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Patterson; and the Dean Gipple family.
- Marshall Motor Co. bought the Wilbur Brown building in the east edge of the business district. The business will move there next week.
- This week at the Alamo: “Easter Parade” starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire and “Robin Hood of Texas” starring Gene Autry.
- Mr. and Mrs. Arnold DeJaynes will be Christmas Day guests at the parental G.R. DeJaynes home in Burlington.
- Mr. and Mrs. Norman Westerbeck and four children will be entertained on Christmas Day at the parental Joe Westerbeck home.
1973
- Two businesses were broken into this past week. Hines Motors was entered through a rear door after removing the glass. Little was taken, but they did eat whatever food they could find. Nine rifles and shotguns were taken from Burkharts the next night. The break-ins are under investigation.
- New London Community pool will be closed from Dec. 22 until January 2.
- Thank-you notes were published from the DeSpain families for all the cards and condolences on the death of Lorrain DeSpain. Another was from Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kermeen to the NL Fire Department for their quick response to a home fire they experienced.
1998
- Mayor Danny Cornell presented Council member Bud Brown with the Mayor’s Service Award for Brown’s outstanding service to the citizens of New London.
- Obituaries this week: Ethel McDonald, Ricky Buffington, Edith Oberman, William Drain, Evelyn Crane, and Deborah A. Myers.
- Letters to Santa: Rachele Thornburg wants a dog and a kitten; Jenna Swisher wants a puppy, and Wesley Inglebright wants a CD player, a racecar, and a snowboard and he promises Santa cookies.
2013
- The school board approved these early graduates: Nora Job, Brielle Netherton, Stephanie Powers, and Tyler Schneider.
- Obituaries this week: Florence L. Miller, Eva Stoderl Casady, and Wendell W. Summers.
- Senior Spotlights this week: Samantha Michelle Anderson, Cody Ryan Bartels, and Jacob Richard Bench.
- Freshman Joey Carter was wished a Happy Birthday as he turned 15 on Dec. 10.
