1949
- The town council authorized the mayor to hire a city dogcatcher. He will round up any stray dogs running loose. If they have a license, the owner will be notified and charged $2. If the dogs aren’t claimed they will be killed.
- Voters will have a choice of eight school board candidates on Monday. They are R. X. Ernest, David Marshall, Carol Reed, Clarence Totemeier, Elmer Wright, Sumner Shores, and Frank Tyner.
- Benteco announces a huge sale for Friday and Saturday. Francis Little, local manager, states that this sale is for the New London store only.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Luck of the Irish” starring Tyrone Power and Anne Baxter and “Thunder in the Valley” starring Lou McCallister and Peggy Ann Garner.
1974
- Helen Bishop was the weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bontrager of Mt. Pleasant.
- New London Girl Scouts helped unload 244 boxes of cookies. They were Kelly Helms, Lynne Craig, Karla Williams, Karen Davis, and Debi Martin.
- Senior Spotlights: Jerry Crouch and Scott Haist.
- Miss Susan Jane Bailey and Timothy Benjamin Rinn were married on March 16 at Harmony Bible Church.
- The New London Garden Club will meet at Edith Miller’s home this month.

- Obituaries this week: Alma Edwards and Billy Wellington.
- The 8th grade basketball team beat the Aquinas Dons 40 to 31. Craig Meade and Joel Swailes led the Tiger scoring.
- Alexis Dawn Boal was born to Mitch and Michelle Boal on March 8. Local great-grandparents are Earl and Marilyn Davis.
- Mr. and Mrs. Russell Woline received a surprise card shower for their approaching 60th wedding anniversary.

- Dedication of the Veterans’ Memorial Park is set for April 12, 2014.
- Senior Spotlights this week: Courtney Lynn Lincoln-Garrels and Brody Carson Burns,
- Avery Jacobs advanced to the state wrestling meet. His record is currently 32-4.
- The 6th grade constructed a pyramid for their Egypt unit in Mr. Bence’s social study class.
