1949
-Dr. E. J. Lessenger returned home from Des Moines where he attended a State Medical Convention.
-A “traveling Bank” filled by Benny Hillard’s friends was an Easter gift. The ten-year old broke his leg December 31 and is now in a “hip spike” cast. His friends raised $50.22.
-Roberta Elliott will spend Easter at the parental George Elliott home. She attends State Teachers College in Wisconsin.
-Wilbur Flam caught a 3 pound, 11 ounce bass at the Country Club.
-Mr. and Mrs. James Marshall, Galesburg, IL, were Sunday guests at the parental Dave Marshall home.
-This week at the Alamo: “Rachel and the Stranger” starring Loretta Young and William Holden and “Station West” starring Dick Powell.
1974
-William S. Hemmings, a NL native, died in Washington. He was born in New London on October 3, 1892.
-There is interest in starting a Lions Club in New London.
-Doris McCleary Higdon died in Peoria. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest McCleary, long-time New London residents.
-Mrs. Ellen Meagher and family were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meagher of Van Meter.
-Fundraisers for the Health Care Center Finance Drive were omitted. They included Margaret McKinnon, Clarence Reid, Howard and Lorene Ritchey, Janet Crabill, Bob Shipley, and Russell Harper.
1999
-Henry County Special Deputy Bob Byczek directs traffic. He was part of a vehicle check.
-Band uniforms are on display at the museum.
-Obituaries this week: Oneita Fisher, Harold “Lee” Wilson, Patty Thomas, Robert Stafford, and Mary Calhoun.
-Senior Interviews this week: Aaron Curry, Jami Rummelhart, and Julie Blow.
