1948
•City committees appointed for 1948: Maurice Mayberry - streets, water, and park; W.S. Corey - streets, finance, and water; Dale Piper - finance, lights; Claude Noel - streets, lights, and park; and Dave Marshall - finance, lights, water, and park.
•The following students will have a part in the senior play: Leon Davey, Carl Dean Harper, Bob Marshall, Bill Eckey, Virginia Hanson, Dorothy Piper, Velma Parsons, and Harold Miller.
•Tuesday evening Mayor Leedham called a special meeting of the town council. The purpose was to get the council’s opinion on permitting music in the taverns. Miss Ora Williams read the ordinance, which did not prevent it, but the state law does not permit dancing. The council could see no objection in having music play, but will not permit dancing.
•This week at the Alamo: “That Hagen Girl” starring Ronald Reagan and Shirley Temple and “Crossfire” starring Robert Mitchum and Robert Young.
1973
•David Scott Owen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard R. Owen, will marry in August to Lynn Diane Shipman from Olathe, Kansas. The groom was a 1971 NLHS graduate.
•Sam Blint, a new resident of New London, was approved as a member of the fire department.
•The Ricordo Club will meet at the home of Dorothy Haist with Clara Tyner as co-hostess.
•Nancy Van Waning is teaching 6th grade since second semester at Clark. She is a native of Indonesia, a Dutch colony. She speaks five languages and is president of the international club at Iowa Wesleyan College.
•Mrs. Minnie Spraker, 94, died at her home on April 6. She is the mother of Emmet Spraker, a New London local.

•Obituary this week: David T. Hirschler.
•The Ricardo Club will meet at the home of Joan Vaughan and Jane Alden will present the program.
•Senior Portraits this week: Matt Cooper, Andy Gates, Matt Lorber, and Stacey Schnicker.
•Youth bowlers end season - Those with perfect attendance were Levi Wagner, Corey Strothman, Rachel Thornburg, Brandon Thornburg, Daniell Darbyshire, Trevor Powers, Dustin Powers, Sadie Wagner, Amy Strothman, Lindsey Gulick, and Ashley Huston.

•Lena Jones was wished “Happy 40th Birthday” from her family.
•Mike Westerbeck expressed frustration with the City’s lack of action in passing a “no burn” ordinance.
