1949
- Claude Noel handed in his resignation as office manager of the electric light office to Mayor E.R. Leedham. He has accepted a position at the ordinance plant.
- Emmett Barton has resigned as HS Principal.
- Bill McKinnon, chairman of the fly control program in New London, announces that fly spraying will start today. The A.D. Hayes Co. will again do the spraying.
- Orville Kilbourn, Irving Synnes, Dale Piper, Woodrow Hale, and Raymond Cox have returned from a fishing trip at Lake of the Woods.
- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Preuss accompanied their son, Don, to Des Moines where he will attend Boy’s State this week.
- Mothers Club meets June 14 at the home of Ethel Piper.
- Mr. and Mrs. Forest McCleary and daughter Mrs. Marjory Spray and Gary were in Des Moines where they attended the annual McCleary Reunion. There were 100 present.
- This week at the Alamo: “When My Baby Smiles At Me” starring Betty Grable and Dan Dailey and “Belle Starr’s Daughter” starring George Montgomery.
1974
- Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pease will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 23 with an open house at the NL Presbyterian Church.
- Robert H. Petzinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petzinger will marry Kathleen Simmons of St. Petersburg, FL on June 15.
- Fern Davey, City Clerk, graduated from NLHS in 1935. She worked at the telephone company for 12 years before being hired by the city. As she approaches 25 years as City Clerk, she has no plans to retire any time soon.
- The summer band season has 43 beginning band students.
- Yale University conferred its PhD. Degree on Gary Jay Williams, formerly of New London. He is the son of Mrs. Mary Jayne Williams and the late Owen Williams. Gary is the grandson of the late Dr. E. J. Lessenger and Mrs. E. J. Lessenger, all formerly of New London.
1999
- New London Canine officer Zeke assisted the police in nabbing a man who they charged with possession and intent to sell. Atta Boy Zeke!
- Donna Lee Woodall and William E. Baker were married on May 26. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Kristi Lounsbury.
- Kent and Gisela Ekstrand Wilson had twin boys. Grandparents are David and Virginia Ekstrand of rural New London.
- This week’s recipient of the Chamber’s Hometown Pride Award are Steve and Sue Aanes at 106 Orchard Lane.
2014
- New London Girls’ Golf Team are Class 1A Runner-Up. The team is Morgan Oliver, Emma Pry, Breanna Stephens, Jorgi Krieger, and Paetyn Prottsman.
- Don Preuss presented a talk and slides at Dover Museum on the 10 Honor Tours that originated from SE Iowa.
- Obituaries this week: Myranell Dockendorff, Charles R. Olsen, and Richard Lee Wind.
- The New London students celebrated the last day of school with fun and games and 8th Grade Promotion.
- The Tigers beat West Burlington 7-5 on the strength of Quincy Porter’s two home runs.
