1949
- Mrs. Clyde Kuhlenbeck is the first one to report ripe tomatoes this year (June 23, 1949).
- Next year’s senior class is working hard to sell tickets for the VFW Fourth of July celebration. There are also 15 queen candidates, and one will be crowned queen as a result of the voting. The candidates are Ruth Marshall, Donna Crabill, Rose Dickey, Berdita Mosbey, Jacque Sue Harper, Helen Walker, Delores Dillavou, Elenore Davey, Mary Ann Hanson, Winifred Lenz, Doris Bagel, Freda Ball, Sadie Ball, Janet Preuss, and Laura Jarvis.
- Three New London Methodists graduated from college this month. They are Mary Wilke, Betty Preuss, and Elmer McDade.
- This week at the Alamo: “One Sunday Afternoon” starring Dennis Morgan and Dorothy Malone and “The Search” starring Montgomery Clift.
1974
- Mrs. Dorothy Baker, food supervisor and manager at the New London School Food Service program, returned from attending a one-week school food short course at Iowa State University in Ames. There were 147 in attendance.
- William Huddleston, 21, died suddenly after suffering a chocking seizure. Bearers for his funeral were Robert Dameron, Jim Johnson, Steve Patterson, Alan Lutenegger, Dan Parks, Gary Dustman, Norman Krier, and Reggie Williamson.
- Cynthia Voyles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Voyles, will participate in the Spanish Language Village program this summer at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
- Eighth grade students that made the “A” honor roll are Debbie Carter, Brian Gibson, Randy Pence, Mark Philgreen, Matthew Vaughan, and Tom Walgren.
- Weekend guests at the Carl Lenz home were Mark Van Zante from Marshalltown, Daisy Hansen, Burlington, and Mike Mayfske and Ron Lenz, Des Moines.
1999
- The Chamber of Commerce Hometown Pride Award winners for this week goes to Scott and Connie Housman for 105 East Linder Street.
- Obituaries this week: Paula Cross and Merlin Martin.
- Sheila and Sam Sonka, Lexington, Kentucky, and Mark Sonka, Cedar Rapids, visited with Audrey Williamson this past week.
- Sixth grade students on the semester honor roll included Jessica Boyd, Thomas Brown, Jaron Byrum, Whitney Connor, Michael Fahrer, Samantha Hanson, Nicole Hummell, and Ashley Huston.
2014
- Three New London residents traveled to Des Moines to participate in the Iowa Games Mud Run 5K 2014. They were Shannon Wellington, Michelle Wagner, and Linda Vacek.
- Obituaries this week: Guy D. Fuson, Michael Phillips, Howard W. Arbogast, Genevieve May Brown, and Carl Lucas Byrum.
- The NLHS softball team remains perfect in divisional play with the win over Central Lee. Morgan Christner was the winning pitcher. Leading hitters were Emily Parks, Ashley Davey, Josten Boyer, Jorgi Krieger and Victoria Noel.
