1949
- Mr. and Mrs. Paul White, of Galesburg, IL, announce the birth of a daughter, Linda Jean, 6 lbs., born June 23.
- Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gipple entertained at a picnic supper at the Country Club in honor of their birthdays. Mrs. Gipple’s was on Saturday and Mr. Gipple and Bruce’s were on Sunday. A huge decorated cake was the center piece of the table.
- The Fourth of July celebration will feature the queen crowned at 1 p.m. and the parade will start at 1:45 p.m.
- This week at the Alamo: “Command Decision” starring Clark Gable and Walter Pidgeon and “Adventures of Don Juan” starring Errol Flynn.
1974
- Mr. and Mrs. Terry Kilbourn and daughters Sara and Ann were week end guests of Ronald Ritchey of Davenport.
- Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stansbery were away to East Iowa Bible camp near Millersberg at a Family Week Bible conference.
- Carl Loyd, general chairman of New London Days this year, has announced the dates. It will be a three-day event on Sept. 12 — 14.
- Pete and Shirley Barry thanked the NL Fire Department for their quick response to their home fire.
- Mr. and Mrs. Aven Coberley attended the second managers session of the 1974 Lakes conference at Lake Okoboji. They were representing the New London Farmers’ Cooperative.
1999
- Dave and Deb Kempker are the new owners of the Short Stop on East Main Street. They will specialize in a full line of ice cream confections and short order sandwiches and sides.
- Lions install officers: Ben Berner — Lion Tamer; Vernon Mitchell — Secretary; Charlotte McGregor — President; Jack Wilson — Board Member; Carol Berner — 1st VP, and PDG Don Callahan and Bob Cardoni — Board Members.
- Obituaries this week: Shirley Pence, Dean Randall, and Kathryn Angstead.
- This week’s Chamber of Conference Hometown Pride Award winners are Greg and Linda Mertens of 224 South Pine Street.
- Brooke Ritchey and Heather Bowman, NLHS 1999 graduates, won SCC Foundation scholarships.
2014
- Matthew Lorber received a Master’s degree in Military History by the American Military University with a ceremony at National Harbor, Maryland.
- Citizens of Tomorrow featured Drew Ben, 10, Lylah Noel, 2, Deangelo Griffin, 6, and Brigham, 6, and Blaise, 9, Porter.
- New London Tiger baseball defeats Mt. Pleasant, 1 — 0.
