1949
- Dr. H.E. Tyner vaccinates 992 pigs for cholera in one day.
- Mr. and Mrs. Ray Williams of Danville announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Floyd Shelledy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Shelledy, New London. The wedding is Aug. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Danville Methodist Church.
- Berdita Mosbey was crowned queen of the Fourth of July celebration. Her attendants were Doris Bagle, Elenore Davey, Rose Dickey, and Donna Crabill.
- Professional and Business Woman’s Club float won first place in the parade. The theme was “School Day Memories.”
- This week at the Alamo: “John Loves Mary” starring Ronald Reagan and Patricia Neal and “The Bribe” starring Robert Taylor and Ava Gardner.
1974
- New London hit a new high July 8, when the electric consumption was the highest ever according to Wes Peterson, NL Utilities Supt. The usage was 3780 kwh.
- Jeff McPheron is employed in Grimentz, Switzerland in a resort. He is there as part of the Young World program.
- John McKinnon Sr. became the third golfer to hit a hole-in-one on the Mt. Pleasant course. Playing with him were John Jr., Perry Haist, and Wilbur Flam.
- Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morrow announce the engagement of their daughter, Tamara Beth, to Timothy Patrick Levine.
- Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rickey announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Nancy to John Blow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Blow on August 17.
- Freda McKinnon and Mildred Nealey were hostesses for a wedding shower for Connie Allen. Twenty guests were in attendance.

- Lightway Industries owner Bob Hardy awarded employees Kelli Nehring and Ramona Prottsman plaques in honor of their five years of dedicated service to Lightway.
