1949
- Elmer McDade, son of Rev. and Mrs. Paul McDade, has accepted a position as foreman of a patrol crew in Sho-Shone National forest in Wyoming. He graduated from Iowa State College last spring.
- Mrs. Mabel Wallar and the John Rapiens have traded homes and are moving this week. The Rapiens last year bought the new home from Richard Cole on North Elm St. They needed a larger home and Mrs. Wallar preferred a smaller home. The sales were made by Justus Piper.
- Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Kannegiesser, Ruth Ann and Bill, and Mrs. Herman Riepe left on a vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Riepe of Minneapolis.
- Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harper, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harper attended a cousin picnic at Eagle Point Park in Dubuque.
- This week at the Alamo: “3 Godfathers” starring John Wayne and “Sergeant York” starring Gary Cooper and Joan Leslie.
1974
- Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Miller announced the engagement of their daughter Charlene to William Henson. They will be married Sept. 14, in the First Nazarene Church.
- Mrs. Evelyn Roseberry, New London vocal music teacher, has turned in her in her resignation after seven years at NLHS. She is moving with her husband to a new pastorate in Arizona.
- The New London Golf Tournament was won by Ben Flam after defeating Clair Peterson in a playoff.
- Former Mayor Elmer Leedham died suddenly at Burlington Memorial Hospital. He served 13 years as mayor and was the owner/operator of Pan Co Vesta Cleaners for many years.
1999
- In recognition of 30 years of service, postal clerk Terry Swailes received a service award from the U.S. Postal Service.
- Obituaries this week: Marjorie Blint and Edgar Smith.
- Russel “Butch” Warth was honored with a birthday celebration for his 90th birthday.
- Class reunions this summer include 1937, 1941, and 1994.
- The Garden Club will meet at the home of Pat Chapuis. Linnea Wellington will serve as co-hostess.
- This week’s Hometown Pride Award Winner is Helen Bishop for her home at 205 East Washington Street.

- Murphye Olsen graduated from Drake University with a Doctor of Pharmacy.
- SEISC South Division All-Conference Softball: First team — Morgan Christner (pitcher); Emily Parks (catcher); Jorgi Krieger (infield); Victoria Noel and Sami Koontz (outfield); and Emma Pry (utility). Second Team — Ashley Davey (infield); Sarah Holtkamp (outfield). Honorable Mention: Josten Boyer and Kenadi Schulte.
