1949
- Mr. and Mrs. Dave Marshall and family and Jean Edwards left for Albuquerque, New Mexico and Pueblo, Colorado where they will visit their son Robert.
- Mrs. Ralph DeSpain entertained several guests for Sonja’s 11th birthday. In attendance were Carol Ann Totemeier, Shirley Hale, Rosina Ibbotson, Sylvia Hanks, Mona Fetterman, Roberta Ernest, Darlene Underwood, and Rita, Annette, and Sonja DeSpain.
- This week at the Alamo: “Little Women” starring Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Lawford and “Down to the Sea in Ships” starring Lionel Barrymore.
- As advertised by the Nifti Thrift Store: sugar — 10 lbs. — 85c, 12 oz. jar of peanut butter — 32c, and potatoes — 10 lbs. — 43c.
- Marilyn Corrick and Berdita Mosbey were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fresh and sons, Ottumwa.
- For clean, rich pasteurized milk — phone 25 for Glen Mason. He delivers.
1974
- There will be a New London Invitational Putt-Putt Golf tournament Friday at Mt. Pleasant behind the A & W Root Beer stand. For transportation contact Brian Lorber or Dirk Brinkmeyer. Golf starts at 7 p.m.
- Dr. and Mrs. Michael Werckle and Michael and Elizabeth from Springfield, IL were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petzinger. Michael will stay for a week’s visit.
- Todd Winter spent the week his parents were gone on vacation at his uncle’s, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Winter’s farm in Dysart. He helped him combine.
- David A. Ruschill, 19, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ruschill enlisted in the Air Force on delayed enlistment.
- Royce King, the new owner of the London Lanes, is now open for bowling and forming fall leagues.
1999
- The New London Volunteer Fire department was called out to a house fire at 419 Main Street. The home is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Lance Sprouse.
- Hometown Veterinary Care welcomed Dr. Dawn Folker to their staff.
- Obituary this week: Dale Blint.
- Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Shelledy will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 21 with an open house at the New London Presbyterian Church.
- This week’s Hometown Pride Award goes to Claude and Georgiana Young for their home at 114 Orchard Lane.

- School will start Wednesday, August 20.

- The City Council requests that you do not blow grass clippings into the roadway. It causes serious drainage issues and violates a city ordinance.
