1949
- Denver Brown sold his tavern to Jake Walter and bought the Cottage Café from Mrs. Jay Mosbey and Ethel Yocum.
- The New London HS gym will get a new asphalt tile floor before basketball starts in November.
- Bill, Bud, and Douglas Grandgeorge, Somonauk, Illinois arrived Sunday to spend the week with Mrs. Yoma McKinnon.
- The W.H. Lounsbury family have returned from a two-week trip through the Black Hills, Yellowstone, Canada, and Minnesota.
- Wednesday morning 25 boys answered the call for the first football practice of the season.
- This week at the Alamo: “Mother is a Freshman” starring Loretta Young and Van Johnson and “A Letter to Three Wives” starring Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, and Ann Sothern.
1974
- Christine Bonar and Gregory McKinnon were married on July 27 at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. James Edwards officiated.
- Jane Ellen Graves became the bride of David LeRoy Simmons on Aug. 10 in Ladue, MO.
- Claudie Chrisman has celebrated his 25th year with the Iowa Telephone Company. He and his wife Zola live in New London and have three sons, Larry, Keith, and Randy. He will receive a gold watch.
1999
- The Class of 1935 held their 64th class reunion on Aug. 14 at the Haven. New London residents attending were Perle and Arlene Dumse, Margaret Lu Westerbeck McKinnon, Frank Van Syoc, Dale and Faith Totemeier, Avon Finke, and Ramoa Redfern Wiley.
- Obituary this week: Lee Sliger.
- Ben Carter, a student chiropractor at Palmer, was one of 43 students who traveled to Nepal for a medical mission trip.
- This week’s Hometown Pride award goes to Larry and Eileen Meagher for their home at 300 East Cleveland street.
2014
- New teachers at NLCSD — Dianna Herzinger — K-12 guidance, Betsabe Carstensen — secondary Spanish, and Kathryn Van Niewaal — HS special education.
- There will be a retirement open house at the City office for Jeri Lyles for 32 years of service and Karen Brown for 31 years of service.
- Obituaries this week: Richard “Dick” Keith Thompson, Jr., Richard Weigert, and Garnet Coberley.
