1949
- Dr. Frank R. Mehler, 44, died Tuesday evening at the Burlington Hospital following a cerebral hemorrhage at his summer home in Lowell. He is the third generation of Mehlers who have provided medical care for New London.
- LaVon Darbyshire, secretary of Union District #7, in Baltimore township, announced that school will open Monday morning. Bessie Robert, an experienced teacher, will fill the position this year.
- Mrs. Blanche Little accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Dale Linder to Indianola where she will visit with her daughter and family.
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patterson have received from their son Roger, that he will be stationed in Oceanside, CA.
- This week at the Alamo: “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” starring Frank Sinatra and Esther Williams and “Mexican Hayride” starring Abbott and Costello.

- With the Journal’s subscription campaign in full swing, Betty Carter leads with 1,200,000 votes.
- Obituary this week: Marjorie Barnes.
- Weekend visitors at Wayne and Darlene Henessee were their grandchildren, Byron, Alyssa, and Drew Clark and Spencer and Thomas Henessee.
- A 25th anniversary party was held for John and Nancy Blow at Deerwood.
- The Hometown Pride Award this week went to Rodger and Kim Wagner for their home on 506 W. Madison Street.
2014
- Statues were added to the Veterans Memorial. They were modeled after Jesse Howard and Rachael Gephardt. They are both active with the Army National Guard.
- Obituaries this week: Margaret and Ronald Brown, Generose “Jennifer” Mary Stuekerjuergen Denning, and Betty Bernice Simmons Ball.
- “Meet the Players” night was a big success. The cross-country team from New London was introduced. They included Grant Swanson, Allison Farley, and Gage Cumpton.
