1949
- Ward Dameron, a former resident of New London, died August 19 in a hospital in Joplin, Missouri, according to a message received by his sister-in-law, Mrs. R. H. Dameron.
- Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pickle are the parents of a 7lb. 10 oz. baby boy, Stephen Ray, born Sunday at the Burlington Hospital.
- Lucille Robertson arrived Saturday from Chicago to assist in the care of her father, Charles Robertson, who is ill.
- Velma and Irene Marten, St. Louis, Mo., returned home Sunday after attending the funeral of their brother-in-law, Dr. Frank Mehler.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Paleface” starring Bob Hope and Jane Russell and “South of St. Louis” starring Joel McCrea and Alexis Smith.
1974
- Mr. and Mrs. Dave Whitson announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Kathleen to Stanley Kuhlenbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Kuhlenbeck on October 19.
- Arthur S. Warth, 75, died August 30. He is survived by his widow, sons James and William and daughter Marlys Abrisz.
- The football team has six returning lettermen. They are Guard - Dave White - Sr.; Tackle - Jim Dotson - Sr.; Fullback - Kerry Miller - Sr.; QB - John Alden - Sr.; Halfback - Joe Peterson - Sr.; and Guard - Tom Hanson - Jr.
- New teachers at NLHS: Mr. Casper Mrs. Hoffman, and Miss Marsh.

- Playground teachers Lesley Yaley and Tina Garrett cut the ribbon on a newly resurfaced Clark elementary playground.
- At the Lions meeting, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Duane Griggs for his 25 years of continuous membership.
- Obituaries this week: William Smith, Opal Patterson, Virgil Landrum, Lucille M. McDaniel, Elmer Christner, Harvey Dell Quandt, and Wayne Williams.
- Class of 1979 held their 20th reunion: Attending were John Stodgell, Kevin Wood, Dave Dameron, Gayla (Elliott) and Shawn Meagher, Diane McPheron, Diane Magdefrau, Lester Coleman, Kevin Pickle, DeAnn Chapuis, Sherilyn (Williams) and John Alden, Susie Kilbourn Klopfenstein, Rusty and Jane Farnsworth, Debbie (Orr) and David Bjorklund, Brian and Terri (Hitchings) Carter, Robin (Ruschill) and Brent Lehman, and Chris (Brissey) and Russ Wagner.
- Damon and Jen Loyd welcomed a son, Samuel Michael Loyd, on August 26. He weighed 9lbs. and 9 oz. and was 22” long.

- In the season opener, New London Tiger football fell to Wapello, 24-12.
- New London Crossing guard, Carl Goodwin, helps get students safely to school.
