1949
- Following an extra band concert in the park on August 31, the mayor and members of the city council treated the band members to cake, ice cream, and lemonade.
- 81 servicemen from Henry County died during the war.
- Phone Dale Piper at 85 for your furnace needs.
- This week at the Alamo: “Ma and Pa Kettle” starring Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride and “Red Canyon” starring Ann Blyth and Howard Duff.
- Don Preuss has been chosen as editor of the Informer, the HS newspaper.
- Mrs. Sumner Shores entertained in the City Park for her son Jackie’s birthday. Guests included Jeffy McKinnon, David Matheny, Jimmy Ritchey, Jimmy Helmerson, Jimmy Church, Ralph Johnson, Ronnie Reppe, Johnny McKinnon, Billy Kannegiesser, Robert Shores, and the honored guest.
1974
- The Tigers were shut out by Mediapolis by the embarrassing score of 55-0. Kerry Miller was the leading ground gainer with 63 yards.
- The Queen of New London Days was Wilma Loyd. The first runner-up was Jonah Hanson and second runner-up was Tammy Blanck.
- The first place float was a tie between the Lowell Rattlers and the Lowell Lady Bugs, both 4-H clubs. Third place went to the Jaycees.
- Three young New London men are playing football at Iowa Wesleyan. They are Ron Walker, Terry Leitch, and John Hollingsworth.
- Floyd Raines of LaCanada, California, formerly of New London, died of a heart attack on September 14. He is survived by a sister, Myra Williamson of New London. He will be buried locally.
- Pam Oliver Stearns has passed her state boards and is a registered nurse. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Oliver of 504 Poplar Street, New London.
1999
- Erin Lyles was queen and Mike Springsteen was king of the Homecoming festivities this year.
- The Lions Club had a float in the Fall Fest parade. Duane Griggs and Wayne Moore, charter members, rode on the float that was pulled by Jerry Dingman’s 1944 John Deere model D tractor. The Lions Club is in its 25th year of service to the community.
- Obituaries this week: Betty Schweitzer, Lois Smith, and Lloyd A. Andries.
- The New London-Danville football team beat Cardinal 37 - 14.
- Mrs. Freda Dameron of 303 West Lincoln Street will observe her 95th birthday on September 24.
2014
- Class of 1954 has class reunion.
- Micah Alden won the 7th annual N.L.P.P.P.A. Golf Extravaganza. A putt-putt tournament, past winners include Dirk Brinkmeyer, Brian Gibson, and John Alden.
- New London volleyball defeats Danville 3-0. Brandi Allen, Emma Pry, and Jorgi Krieger are pictured.
- Tiger football defeats WACO, 24-21. Head Coach Brad Helmerson is pictured.
