1949
- Doris Sharp entertained some Mt. Pleasant friends to a wiener roast after which they attended the New London — Mt. Pleasant football game.
- Dean Gipple entered the Memorial hospital as a medical patient.
- C. D. Christensen, secretary of New London — California picnic committee, announces that the annual picnic will be Oct. 8 in Brookline Park, Pasadena.
- Coming on Sept. 26 is the WHO Home Talent Show @ 8 p.m. in the HS auditorium. Adm: 25c and 50c.
- Daryl Gipple is spending this week at the home of his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ira Owens, Olds.
- Third grade news: Robert Burkhart, who has been ill, was able to start school bringing the class number to 40.
- Second grade news: Chucky Noel treated the class to “Snaps” for his birthday on Friday.
- This week at the Alamo: “Family Honeymoon” starring Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray and “The Pride of the Yankees” starring Gary Cooper.
1974
- Jim Jackson, chairman of the horseshoe pitching contest, submitted a list of winners: class A — 1st — Harold Darnald, 2nd — Stony Jackson; Class B — 1st — Don Prottsman, 2nd — Andy Jackson, and 3rd — Jim Jackson; Class C — 1st — Jerry Darnald, 2nd — John Alden, and 3rd — Randy Stoderl.
- Spirit is …going to all the games with fingers crossed for a victory… wearing black and gold when you really wanted to wear jeans… going to all the games and coming home with a bad case of laryngitis… standing up and cheering even if you don’t know the words of the cheer… yelling out one cheer while the cheerleaders are leading another — Source: The Tiger Tribune (Sept. 26, 1974).
- Frontier Days — Chuck Noel drives the Burkhart & Co. queen candidate — Jonah Hanson — in the parade.
- Tom Ritchey, local banker, counts the money as it comes in for the pork meal served by the Chamber of Commerce at Frontier Days.
1999
- Skye Wellington of New London, is one of 141 students named to the Indian Hills Community College President’s list. They achieved high academic honors.
- Obituaries this week: Laura Breuer and James Robinson Sr.
- Jerry McKinnon, a native and longtime businessman of New London, was named Grand Marshal for the New London Day parade.
- The Garden Club will meet on Friday, Sept. 24 at the home of Violet Locke.
- Velma Davey was wished “Happy Birthday” on her 69th birthday with a picturegram.
- Senior Erin Lyles puts the ball past the Notre Dame Nikes at the Mediapolis Tournament.
2014
- The Black & Gold Backers have been busy over the summer doing a total remodel of the concession stand in the gym. Starting as a coat closet when the gym was new, it became necessary to find room for a concession stand when the lunchroom moved from the HS to Clark Elementary.
- The Black & Gold Backers Board members are President Nicci Hill, VP Terri Beckman, Secretary Jamie Loyd, and Treasurer Pam Blint. Board members are Shane Mettler, Steve Beckman, and Joel Prottsman.
- Obituary this week: Gary Lee Watson.
