1949
- The Robert Helphreys bought Mrs. Adam Westerbeck’s home. Mrs. Bernice Helphrey is the former Bernice Westerbeck.
- The Chapter EV P.E.O. will meet at the P.E.O. Beckwith home in Mt. Pleasant. Gertrude Elliott will give a report of the Supreme Charter Convention held in Chicago in Sept.
- Donald Warth of New London has been selected for membership in the Coe College band. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Warth.
- Mr. and Mrs. Dale Totemeier are the proud parents of a daughter Denise Corine, 7 lbs. 12 oz. They have a daughter Sherrill who will be three in November. She is staying with grandparent Adolph Totemeier.
- Ida Bazel, Morning Sun, was a week-end guest of her sister, Mrs. Verne Blanck.
1974
- National Fire Prevention Week kicked off on Oct. 6 when New London students had an unexpected fire drill. The local firemen were on hand at the elementary. They included Willis Bozarth, Jim Helmerson, Junior Williams, and Reggie Williamson.
- The following people hold NLHS records for unusual feats: Barb Clark — curliest hair; Kirk Miller — the hippest kid in the school; Sandy Van Syoc — having more clothes than all the stores in Burlington; and Myron Miller — being the smallest sophomore in NLHS history.
- Dr. Don Preuss of Mesa, Arizona visited a few days the end of last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Preuss and other relatives.
- Miss Wilma Loyd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Loyd, and James Blow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Blow, were married at the Presbyterian Church on Sept. 28.
1999
- Six New London residents have filed their papers for election to the city council. They are incumbents Mike Westerbeck and Troy Mears. Others contesting for the two seats are Dick Cosby, Richard Grove, Les Loyd, and Berdita Hibbs. Mayor Danny Cornell is also seeking re-election.
- History repeating itself. In the school paper, Tiger Tales, the headline is Hurricane Floyd: North Carolina’s road to recovery.
- Writers this week in the Tiger Tales are Rachel Chrisman, Jennifer Wagner, Derrick Dickey, Adam Richardson, and Mike Springsteen.
- The Class of 1974 held their 25th class reunion at the Timeout Sports Bar and Grill in Mt. Pleasant on July 3.
2014
- Roger Kozak, otherwise known as the “can man” collects cans from various places around town. It helps keep him in shape, the community clean, and the can companies in business.
- Obituaries this week: Maxine M. Brennman, Bernice Becker, and Shirley Blint.
- New London football fell to W-MU, 6 — 41.
- Meet the 2014 Homecoming Court: Mercedes Crossett, Jorgi Krieger, Autumn Blain, Olivia Maestro, Emily Parks, Xen Jewitt, Duke Maestro, Dallas Menke, Tristan Kadel, and Hunter Moeller.
- The following members of the student council decorated Casey’s window for homecoming: Sadie Crossett, Tristan Kadel, Emily Jacobs, Autumn Blain, Katherine McAllister, Carlie Loyd, Summer Miller, Hannah White, and Bailey Reed.
