1949
- The school marching band under the direction of I.O. White will participate in the Fairfield annual band festival. The band is 57 players and baton twirlers.
- Irving Synnes was appointed as city councilman at the council meeting last week.
- Judge Walter has called New London home for 50 years. Judge has practiced law, conducted a farm loan business, and farmed at Piety Hill.
- Daryl Gipple was crowned king of the “Tiny Tots” sponsored by the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
- Berdita Mosbey reported in The Informer on the upcoming homecoming celebration to be held on Oct. 21.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Stratton Story” starring James Stewart and June Allyson and “The Younger Brothers” starring Wayne Morris and Bruce Bennett.
1974
- The New London Tiger Marching Band traveled to Wapello last Saturday for the state marching band contest. The judges awarded the 91 member band a “superior” rating.
- The student librarians this year are Julie Blanck, Sue Peterson, Karen Lucas, Pam Lockard, Kay Garrels, Tammy Wright, Cindy Gaylord, Sue Loyd, Jackie Brown, Janet Coleman, and Toni Spears.
- The Tigers were blanked by Lone Tree, 21-0. Kerry Miller was the leading ground gainer with 63 yards. Mitch Raines caught three out of five passes, and Jim and John Alden both had an interception.
- Chris Oleson, New London, was elected president of the Practical Nursing program at SCC.
1999
- Amy Loving, 16, a junior at NLHS, died at the University Hospital in Iowa City from injuries received in an auto accident.

- Students on the high honor roll: Danae Bell, Rylee Olsen, Stephanie Fisher, Julie Mallams, Amy Strothman, Whitney Wagner, Katie Lorber, Brittany Mears, Kelsey Hill, Nathaniel Schmitt, Tyler Horn, Dillon Darbyshire, and Amanda Sallee.
- New London’s Susan Wick and Brandy Miller have been instrumental in this year’s winning volleyball season.
2014
- This week’s $50 football winner is Judy Elder.

- Youth volleyball season ends. There were two 5th and 6th grade teams: Haley Rohdy, Kennedy Bachtell, Aliyah Christensen, Paris Wilka, Heaven Dufour, Kiley Ledbetter, Jasmine Dodson and Ivy Long. They were coached by Karla Rohdy. The second team was Ashlyn McSorley, Emerson Lehman, Saige Barron, Hannah Ortberg, Chloe Collis, Ellee Cooper, and Morgan Kennel. They were coached by Julie Lehman.
