- Gordan Netley celebrated his 6th birthday with a grand party. In attendance were Johnny McKinnon, Duane Berry, Bill and Melvin Broker, and Howard Netley.
- Wapello will be the Tigers’ football foe for homecoming.
- Orville Kilbourn, fire chief, said they are spending $400 to overhaul the small firetruck.
- Ricordo Club will meet this month at Mrs. Earl Petzinger’s home. Mrs. C. W. Ogg will be cohostess.
- This week at the Alamo: “The Beautiful Blonde from Bashful Bend” starring Betty Grable and “It Happens Every Spring” starring Ray Milland and Jean Peters.
- Mrs. Wesley Peterson, who has been ill at home for several days, is improving.
- New London Women’s Club will meet Oct. 24 at the home of Mrs. Nell Holland.
- Forty-nine businesses sponsored the week’s football game in the Journal with a large ad.
1974
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Patterson will quietly observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 25 at home.
- Where are the 1971 graduates now? Debbie Garmoe — SCC then employed; Greg Hoel — U.S. Army; Linda Goody — working; and Carla Williamson — Kirksville.
- PP&K winners announced: 1st place — Chris Carmon, Todd Lehman, Craig Clark, Lon Fulton, Jon Brown, and Chuck Clark. They will all move on. Three girls also tried out: Brenda Pickle, Barb Carter, and Diane Carmon.
- Thank you ads from Guy and Marie Redfern and Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Readinger.

- Officer Mark Shepherd made an arrest in a stolen pickup truck case despite being hit by a passing car.
- Obituary this week: Virgil Malott.
- Just delivered: Koby Lee McBeth.
- Citizens of Tomorrow pictured: Amber Raines, Rachelle Wixom, Drake and MicKenna Curry, and Taylor and Shelby Buchholz.
- Lady Tigers defeat Danville in volleyball. Next up is West Burlington.

- Duke Maestro and Jorgi Krieger were the 2014 homecoming king and queen.
