1949
- The American Legion post 203 elected Arthur Morrow as Commander.
- Mrs. Ralph DeSpain entertained on Wednesday for Rita Jolene’s seventh birthday. Attending the party were Claudia Young, Sara Burkhart, Billy Shipley, Frances Ibbotson, Joyce Stewart, Jimmy Little, Sharon Angstead, Dorothy Peterson, Billy Kannegiesser, and sisters Annette and Sonja.
- Mrs. Ralph Eckles visited over the weekend with her daughter Dorothy in Chicago.
- There will be a turkey shoot on Nov. 6 at Flam Field sponsored by the New London Gun Club.
- This week at the Alamo: “Canadian Pacific” starring Randolph Scott and “A Night at the Opera” starring the Marx Bros.
1974
- The Republicans won the Henry County contests.
- Mr. and Mrs. Paul Farnsworth have bought and moved into the former Walter Huddleston home.
- Seniors on the “A” honor roll for the first quarter: Phyllis Durham, Jane Greulich, Cindy Herrill, Vicky Howard, and Marcia Thornburg.
- A new activities sign has been placed in the front lawn of the high school.
- Sixteen members of the American Legion and Auxiliary observed Armistice Day Monday, Nov. 11 with a buffet dinner at the New London Hall.
1999
- Berdita Hibbs and Mike Westerbeck were elected to the city council, and Danny Cornell was returned to mayor.
- Obituaries this week: James Dunn and Larry Curtis.
- The Stroll Committee hosts the Tour of Homes on the day after Stroll. Homes on the tour are Watznauer home @ 301 E. Main St.; Gipple home @ 101 E. Madison St.; Linkin home @ 205 E. Main St.; and Fulk home @ 2740 HWY. 34 East.
- Nathan Parks was the winner of last week’s football contest. He won $50.
2014
- Iowa’s Smokey D’s BBQ was named the Grand Champion at the 2012 Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational BBQ. Co-owners Darren and Sherry Warth took home a large cash prize. Darren is the son of Ruth Ann and Bob Warth and is an NLHS graduate.
- Names recently added to Veterans Memorial: Mable Simmons, Byron A. Miller, Robert McCabe, Billy M. McCabe, Carl Lucas Byrum, and Michael R. Phillips.
- The NL volleyball advances to the state tournament.
- Obituary this week: Everett W. (Zeke) Toft.
