1949
- There were 12 guests who enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner at the Dave Marshall home. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Lysie White and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Poggemiller and Marjory, Dave Marshalls, Ruth, Jane, and Eddie.
- Clair and Helen Bishop hosted Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brink and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bishop for Thanksgiving.
- Bob Corrick, the former New London star, was awarded a Drake University varsity letter for the 1949 football season. He played fullback.
- Ralph DeSpain, chairman of the C of C street decorating committee will be decorating Main Street today (Dec. 1).
- Mrs. Carrie Elliott received visitors for her 89th birthday. That makes her one of New London’s oldest citizens. She is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Pruess.
- Carl Totemeier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Totemeier, is a member of the “Varsity 8” vocal group at Iowa State College.
- This week at the Alamo: “Look for the Silver Lining” starring June Haver and Ray Bolger and “It’s a Great Feeling” starring Dennis Morgan and Doris Day.
1974
- Claudie Chrisman received a wristwatch for his 25 years of service with the Iowa Telephone Company.
- Robert Reed visited this past weekend in the parental home of Mr. and Mrs. Carol Reed.
- Mrs. Mike Weigert entertained at a birthday party for the 6th birthday of her son Nicky. Guests included Jeff Henessee, Jeff Childers, Jess Johnson, Joey Johnson, Shelley and Crissy Lee, Lori Peterson, and Terry Bozarth.
- Lloyd Timmons, 58, died at his home following a short illness. He leaves his wife Ernestine and daughters Maureen and Marilyn.
- Jill Edwards is engaged to Bob Stanton of Des Moines. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Edwards and a 1971 New London High School graduate. A February wedding is being planned.
- The candidates for Jack Frost and Suzy Snowflake are Scott Blow, Shane DuPree, Tim Hines, Kent Hunter, John Alden, Linda Weber, Tammy Blanck, Rhonda Readinger, Sara Kilbourn, and Vickie Miller.
1999
- Erin Lyles, daughter of Wayne and Jeri Lyles, shared some of her experiences from the World Affairs Seminar with the Lions Club. She traveled to White Water, Wisconsin to attend the seminar.
- Obituaries this week: Shirley Huntington and Merle Kinsinger.
- Babies just delivered: Carlie Jo Loyd, Evan Charles Sonka, and Jaden Connor Krieger.
- This week’s senior interviews: Brandy Lynn Miller, Patrick Michael Henderson, and Malissa Ann Swailes.
- The 9th annual Holiday Stroll was on Dec. 4, 1999.

- HCHC’s new certified nurse-midwives are Kendra Bonnesen and Kari Payne.
- Obituary this week: Bill Simmons.
- The JH girls basketball season is up and running. They played West Burlington. The 7th grade won, 40-10 and the 8th grade lost, 16-34.
