1949
- Jesse Davey has been named the new fire chief.
- The Mothers’ Club Christmas party will be held at the city hall on Dec. 13. Mrs. Linnea Wellington will be hosting.
- With Irving Synnes’ appointment to the council, Ralph DeSpain has taken his place on the New London Hall board.
- Treats for the kiddos will be at 7 o’clock on the evening of Dec. 23. Santa will be uptown to hand out treats and the stores will be open.
- Interest has developed in providing an emergency hospital with 8 to 10 beds. Both farmers and town folks have expressed their views and are willing to give it financial support.
- A quall supper was held at the NL hall. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Harper and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Linkin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Ball and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Williamson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barry and family, Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Kramer and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Williamson.
- Mr. and Mrs. John McKinnon have returned home after a three-week visit with friends and family in California.
- This week at the Alamo: “Any Number Can Play” starring Clark Gable and Alexis Smith and “Tarzan’s Magic Fountain” starring Lex Baker.
1974
- Steve Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, is a percussionist in the William Penn band and is also a member of the William Penn choir. He is a freshman.
- Jack Voyles, Bob Shores, and Chuck Noel, all members of the NL Fire department, helped distribute Christmas treats to the school kids.
- Jeri Lyles, Ron Walker, and John Hollingsworth, all of New London, were among the 50 athletes honored at the IWC sports banquet.
- Mrs. Evelyn Garmoe and Debbie and Dana Titus spent the weekend at Dana’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Titus and sons, at Sugar Grove, IL.
- Mr. and Mrs. Ralph DeSpain were in Glenwood to attend the funeral of Mrs. Ivadell Quandt. The Quandts lived in New London from 1957 to 1963 where Rev. Quandt served as pastor at the Methodist Church.

- Obituaries this week: Ronald Lodge, Dalton Holsteen, Ruth Geren, Ronald Dameron, and Mary Nicholson.
- At the Stroll, these memorials were made in memory of the following: Dale Blint, Woodrow Hale, Phenix Mueller, Tim Meagher, Mark Pennebaker, Robert Pfeiffer, Bill Morrow, Pauline McNeeley, Lloyd Bjorklund, Tommy Bjorklund, Russell Miller, Larry Curtis, Ralph Eckey, Terrill McCall, and Lois Smith.
- Setter Susan Wick, outside hitter Erin Lyles, and Coach Maureen Heath were named to the All-Hawk Eye VB team. Corina Schropp was named to the second team.
- Benjamin Carter has been named to the dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport.
2014
- Alec Smith, Kyley Ledbetter, and Zoe Buck are Patriot Pen winners at the NL VFW. They were presented their awards by Commander Larry Meagher.
- Obituaries this week: Helen E. Toft and Rosemarie Prickett.
- Avery Jacobs won his 3rd straight championship in the heavyweight class at the Jeremy Fulk Invitational tournament.
- The 24th annual Holiday Stroll was a big success.
- The NL school board held a special meeting to purchase a new wrestling mat and basketball hoop winches. Each sports’ booster club has agreed to pay half of each purchase.
