1949
- Eldon (Bizz) Williamson has leased the D-X service station. Mr. Williamson was employed at Harper’s grocery for more than three years. He will continue to carry Firestone products in connection with the gas and oil business. Cleo Dodds will take the vacated job at Harpers.
- Mr. and Mrs. J. P Smith and daughters will move Jan. 1 from the apartment above Pfeiffer’s salesroom to the Denny house.
- Mayor E. R. Leedham pleads for coal. He called two companies in Chicago to search for coal as several stokers will be out this weekend. He was directed to call or write the governor. Things could get as bad as in 1936.
- Mrs. Margaret Hayes assisted by Mrs. Pease will entertain the Areme club. The entertainment committee will be Mrs. Dorothy Jennings, Mrs. Thelma Synnes, and Mrs. Maxine Eichler.
- Supt. R. N. Reppe announces that school will close at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon Dec. 23 for Christmas vacation.
- This week at the Alamo: “I Was a Male War Bride” starring Cary Grant and Ann Sheridan and “Scene of the Crime” starring Van Johnson.
1974
- Irene Pollack has spent the past week in Ventura at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McKinnon. She also attended her granddaughter’s wedding. Others from New London attending were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Pence and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kermeen.
- Kurt Hopson flew to Chicago with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Miley for a visit this week.
- John Mears was a recent medical patient at the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Hospital.
- Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Darbyshire have returned from Las Vegas where they celebrated Christmas with their son Jerry.
- Mr. and Mrs. James Piper of Las Vegas, Nev. Returned home after spending Christmas at the parental Dale Piper home.
1999
- New London Mayor Danny Cornell and Fire Chief Steve Aanes posed for a picture in front of a fire engine. Mayor Cornell has singled out the New London Volunteer Fire Department as something that citzens’ can be proud.
- This week’s obituaries: Dorothy Kilbourn, Douglas Steward, Jason Bitting, and Donald Ruschill.
- William and Charlotte Gittings will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 8, 2000.
- Amanda Kozak was among the 600 students who were named to the President’s list at Indian Hills Comm. College.
2014
- The Enhance Henry County Community Foundation awarded the NL school $5,000 and the VFW $2,500.
- Obituary this week: Mrs. Billie Jo Keith.
- JR and Anna Williams will celebrate 60 years of marriage on Jan. 4, 2015.
