1949
- Charles Gordon Menzies, prime minister of Australia, is a cousin to George Menzies of New London.
- The following entertained with Christmas dinner: Mrs. Frank Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Shipley, Mr. and Mrs. John McClure, Mr. and Mrs. Xen Earnest, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jennings.
- Jean McCabe will entertain the Good Samaritan class of the Presbyterian Sunday school on Jan. 9.
- 112 attended the Firemen’s Ball. It was held in the glove factory building.
- The Tigers will play Morning Sun here on Jan. 6. Admission is 25c for students and 50c for adults.
- This week at the Alamo: “Go to the Stable” starring Loretta Young and “Roughshod” starring Robert Sterling.
- NL Country Club elects officers: Pres. — Wilbur Sater; VP — Wilbur Flam; Sec-Treas. — Ralph Eckey; and Directors — Orville Hoel, Dale Piper, and Jack Harper.

- Dogs running loose are a constant problem in New London. The Mayor and Council urges citizens to keep their dogs at home.
- Gerald Lehman is a director of the Mt. Pleasant Federal Land Bank Association.
- Mayor Orville Kilbourn has declared Jan. as Alien Address Report month.
- The Geode Café has reopened after being closed since before Christmas. It has been remodeled extensively.
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staley have returned home after a 12-day Christmas holiday trip which took them to visit family in both North and South Carolina.
1999
- Steve and Sue Annes and Scott and Sarah spent the holidays in Des Moines with Sue’s mother and family.
- Floyd and Mary Shelledy and Kenneth and Vera Shelledy enjoyed a holiday meal at Buff’s.
- Jim and Dianne Dickey and sons were weekend guests of Berdetta Dickey and the Kenneth Shelledys.
2014
- Elementary students made a generous donation to the Lions Club.
- A triangular meet was held in New London. Pictured is Sam Loyd (106) who won by a major decision 15-4.
- Tristan Kadel shoots in a basketball contest against West Burlington. The Falcons won 66-54.
