1950
- The newly appointed Henry County chairman of the American Cancer Society is George Elliott. He has served many years with great success and last year he raised 130% of the quota for Henry County.
- Mr. and Mrs. S. P. (Rocky) Shores have returned from a 6,000 mile trip that took in parts of Mexico and the western parts of the United States. Mrs. Shores speaks Spanish which came in handy.
- In a special meeting, the school board voted to buy a rubber mat so chairs can be used for banquets without damage to the gym floor.
- Chapter EV of P.E.O. met at the home of Mrs. Roy Wise. Mary Ireton gave the program.
- The kindergarten has finished learning and printing their ABCs. They received a star if their worksheets were correct. So far Mary Jane Helmerson, Rodney Linkin, and Blaine McNeal have received the most stars.
- The 7th grade class prepared a sunshine box for Thelma Mason and sent it to the hospital. She underwent an emergency appendectomy on Saturday at the Burlington hospital.
- This week at the Alamo: “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” starring John Wayne and Joanne Dru and “Adventure in Baltimore” starring Robert Young and Shirley Temple.
1975
- Jerry Vice, formerly of New London, suffered a severe heart attack while hunting. He is in intensive care.
- The Burlington Holiday Inn was the site of the Montgomery Ward belated Christmas party. In attendance from New London were Mr. and Mrs. Max Kerr, Sherry Kerr with Tom Cole, and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Griggs.
- The former Garrels Motors building will be the new home of the Coffee House, now located in the NL State Bank.
- Mr. and Mrs. Steven Readinger are the proud parents of a baby boy that has been named Lucas Paige. Grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Harry M. Readinger.
- Senior Spotlights this week: Marcia Jean Thornburg and Steve Wick.
- The American Legion and Auxiliary will meet at the home of George Elliott.
- Tiger wrestlers placed 3rd at Highland. Kerry Miller (145) was the lone champion for New London.
2000
- New London MS geography bee saw 7th grader Nathan Schmitt take first place. Cody Wixom was runner-up.
- Carson Marie McSorley arrived on Dec. 30, 1999. She is the daughter of Mark and Gina McSorley.
- Rachel Chrisman has been named to the 33rd annual edition of “Who’s Who Among American High Schools.”
- Esther Schroeder received a “happy birthday” ad in the Journal for her 80th birthday on Jan. 22.
- The headline read “Lady Tigers on a Rampage” as they beat Aquinas and Marquette by large margins. They are currently 11-2.
2015
- Obituary this week: Elmer G. Keuhnle.
- The NL 8th grade BB team won medals at the Mt. Pleasant Tournament last weekend. The team is made up of Dawson Butterbaugh, Keontae Luckett, Jalen Birdsell, Mason Porter, D.J. Humphrey, Isaac McSorley, and Tyler Henecke.
- At the school board meeting, Mike Jones complimented the board and administration on how good the school facilities look and the job they are doing.
