1950
- Mr. and Mrs. Max Collins and baby left for Brandenton Beach, Florida. There are 17 New Londoners down there for the winter. No doubt more will follow.
- Circle No. 5 of the Methodist church will meet at the church rather than with Mrs. Claire Bishop as previously announced.
- A handbag belonging to Mrs. Lucille Wright was stolen at the DeSpain hardware store. It has not been found or returned. It seems that other purse snatches have also been reported. Mrs. Wright’s handbag was found on the highway by the maintenance men with some of the contents still in it. But the money was gone.
- In grades one and two, the following students had perfect spelling: Karen Sue Angstead, Jimmie Little, Donnie Lee, Aven Coe, Billy Kannegiesser, Chucky Noel, Ronnie Hildebrand, Sharon Layman, Billy Shipley, Dayle Linder, Jimmy Helmerson, Carole Kinney, and Kenneth Joy.
- This week at the Alamo: “Red Stallion Rockies” with Arthur Franz and “The Noose Hangs High” with Abbott and Costello.
- T. J. Layman, cable splicer for the Iowa-Illinois Telephone Co., returned from Texas after being gone for two months. He was employed to be a splicer in the reconstruction of an army base.
- Tuesday, between 11 and 12 a.m., a large blast at the Iowa Ordinance plant broke a corner off the stone footing of the Iowa State bank building. On Wednesday, the blasts were felt again.
- Rebecca Clark (along with her siblings, left money for the building of Clark elementary), is being cared for at the Walter Lemon home. She is not doing as well as hoped.
1975
- Mr. and Mrs. Miles Henderson, returning from a stay in Hawaii, are visiting in the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Henderson. They will be here until Feb. 15, when they will be returning to a new home in Israel.
- Mr. and Mrs. James Garland are celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30.
- Frank Burmaster was taken to Burlington hospital in the early morning hours by Elliott ambulance where he remains a patient.
- This week’s senior interviews are of Sara Kilbourn and Johnny Alden.
- Miss Marla Morrison has taken over the vocal music department for second semester.
- Miss Jill Edwards was honored with a bridal shower. She will be married Feb. 22 in Des Moines.
2000
- Susan Wick hit her 1000th point last week against Marquette. She was the second Lady Tiger to hit that milestone. Lindsay Anderson hit it on Jan. 17, 1995.
- Obituaries this week: Arthur M. Poling, Martin Luedtke, Lorraine Geary, and Martha Riepe.
- Doug and Lori Arrowsmith are parents of baby girl. Arrowsmith is a former resident of New London and graduated from NLHS.
- The Lady Tigers defeated the Marquette Warriors, 56-23. Sam Wagner pulled down 15 rebounds and Susan Wick was the leading scorer with 25 points.
2015
- Obituaries this week: Kevin Walters and Mary Beth Anderson.
- Yearbooks will go on sale for $35 on Feb. 3 & 5.
- New London Nursing and Rehab’s Association of the National Association of Health Care Associates (NAHCA) collected $100 for milk and presented it to Elementary Principal Todd Palmatier.
