1950
- Some of the Citizens of Tomorrow featured in this week’s paper: Vicki, 6, and Danny, 4, Kramer; Sheila Kay Williamson, 3; Tom Noel, 3; and Paula, 4, and Sharon, 2, Parsons.
- Deaths: Mrs. Ida Goodrich, Mrs. Etta Harper, and Ray Schenk.
- Shirley Harms and Marvin Plummer returned to school after having the chickenpox.
- The school had a pep meeting as reported on by Suzanne Wessel. It was to encourage the Tigers to beat Wayland. The senior class won the contest by yelling the loudest.
- The first and second-graders with perfect spelling papers this week: Keith Grinstead, Betty Grimm, Sharon Howell, Roger Smith, and Karen Lee.
- Attending a surprise birthday party at the Ruben Frank home were the Forrest Burkharts, the Ivan Burkharts, and the Merle Smiths.
- The senior class will present the “Gay Ninety Review” in the HS Auditorium on Feb. 9, 1950.
- This week at the Alamo: “Yes, Sir That’s My Baby” starring Donald O’Connor and Gloria DeHaven and “Once More My Darling” starring Robert Montgomery and Ann Blyth.
1975
- Joyce Campbell of Mediapolis is engaged to Fred Messer of New London.
- Mr. and Mrs. Merle Herrill announce the engagement of their daughter, Judy, to Michael Garvey, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Garvey. A spring wedding is planned.
- Ralston Lynn, director of the board of the New London State Bank for 20 years, is retiring. Gerald Hopson has been appointed to replace Lynn.
- Linda Mae Maginnis, 25, was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 3. She is the daughter of Francis and Bonnie Maginnis. She will be buried at Burge Cemetery.
- Chuck Noel is a patient in the Burlington hospital where he underwent an appendectomy.
- This week’s Senior interviews: Judy Herrill and Phyllis Durham.
- Mr. and Mrs. Herb Phillips of Aledo, IL visited here over the weekend at the parental Herb Phillips’ home.
- Juniors on the “A” honor roll: Joyce Crabill, Shiree Davey, Marilyn Eichler, Bob McPheron, Cindy Voyles, and Diane McPheron.
2000
- The Henry County Bank celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the New London branch. Dianne Carter was pictured.
- Obituaries this week: Roena Nehring, Florence Smith, and Esther Martin.
- Students of the Month: Miranda Stockdall and Walt Harper.
- The Lady Tigers beat the Van Buren Warriors 57-51. Susan Wick led the Tigers with 16 points, Corina Schropp and Sam Wagner each had 12, and Brittony Williamson and Jenny Dahl each added six.
2015
- The Lady Tigers beat Van Buren 51-36. Frankie Johnson had 10 points and Morgan Christner added nine.
- Sophomore Reno Chiri (138) fell to L&M’s Subbert at the SEISC wrestling tournament. Chiri finished third after pinning Pekin’s Scearcy.
- Chapter EV of P.E.O. will meet on Feb. 12. Kay Miller and Wanda McPheron will give reports. Amy Ryan and Barb Byrd will serve as hostesses.
