1950
- During 1949, the New London post office showed an increase of approximately 7%, according to Wilbur Flam, postmaster.
- Preparations are being made to host 490 at the Co-op banquet. Seniors will serve.
- Pfeiffer garage, the local Hudson dealer, has the new Hudson Commodore on display.
- Dr. F.W. Eastwood, pastor of the Presbyterian church, is set to retire on March 5th. He has been the pastor here since March of 1945.
- Mrs. William McKinnon has been appointed New London township chairman for the coming drive for funds for the Iowa Children’s Home Society in Des Moines.
- Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKinnon are the parents of a 7lb. 4 ½ oz. baby girl they’ve named Betty Jean. She was born on Valentine’s Day. She has big sister Linda waiting for her at home.
- This week at the Alamo: “Oh You Beautiful Doll” starring Jean Haver and “Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer “ starring Boris Karloff.
1975
- The New London cheerleaders tied for 1st place in the Iowa Wesleyan Cheerleading Clinic. The cheerleaders are Sandy Van Syoc, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Syoc; Sheri Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams; Tammy Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Wright; Sharon Voyles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Voyles; Lynn Musgrove, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Musgrove; Sherry Blow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Blow; and Debbie Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Carter Jr.
- Senior Interviews this week were Linda Weber and Scott Blow.
- Making the “B” honor roll were 8th graders Brian Carter, John Darbyshire, Gayla Elliott, Loree Lenz, Lyn McAllister, and Shelley Schnicker.
2000
- Henry County Sheriff candidates are incumbent Ken Krabill, Dan Wesely, and Lyle Parriott.
- New London 5th graders Shelby Woodall and Cale Staley. They were participants in a geography bee.
- Obituary this week: Don Gabeline.
- Vocalists Bobbi Fry, Dave Bennage, and Barbara Byrd performed an old-time gospel medley at the Dover Museum.
- Shane and Mindy Mettler are parents of a baby girl they’ve named Breanna Marie. Born on Feb. 10, she weighed 8 lbs.
2015
- Making the most of the snow, Short Stop employees built a snowman from a large Feb. snowfall. They were Tony Kempker, Detrich Totemeier, Dave Kempker, and Krista Kempker.
- Obituary this week: Milton N. Niggemeyer.
- Ron Brown and Koral Fuson had Letters to the Editor this week.
- Avery Jacobs advances to State. He placed first in the districts wrestling tournament.
