During 1949, the New London post office showed an increase of approximately 7%, according to Wilbur Flam, postmaster.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKinnon are the parents of a 7lb. 4 ½ oz. baby girl they’ve named Betty Jean. She was born on Valentine’s Day. She has big sister Linda waiting for her at home.

The New London cheerleaders tied for 1st place in the Iowa Wesleyan Cheerleading Clinic. The cheerleaders are Sandy Van Syoc, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Van Syoc; Sheri Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Williams; Tammy Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Wright; Sharon Voyles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Voyles; Lynn Musgrove, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Musgrove; Sherry Blow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Blow; and Debbie Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Carter Jr.
