1950
- Dr. E. J. Lessenger, physician and surgeon in New London since 1915, died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. It was not made clear whether he died during or after the operation to remove a kidney.
- Riley Locke is seeking the three-year term on the school board that J.O. Bell has held. Bell is not seeking re-election.
- Mrs. Forrest Burkhart attended the girls’ state basketball tournament and is still considered one of the state’s all-time great girl basketball players. She was a three-time all-state guard playing for Hillsboro HS. Her last year she was picked as the most valuable player.
- One ticket was filed for the city election. Mayor E.E. Leedham and Councilmen Wes Corey, Jim Collins, Hugh McKinnon, Dave Marshall, and Dale Piper.
- The following P.E.O. members were elected as officers: Pres. — Mrs. Irving Synnes, VP — Mrs. Wm. Roundbush, Recording Sec. — Florence Campbell, Corresponding Sec. — Mrs. Roy Wise, Treas. — Ora Williams, Chaplain — Mrs. Chalmer Boyer, and Guard — Mrs. Byron Toft.
- Mrs. Jerry McKinnon and Gregory returned home from Mercy Hospital.
- The first grade reports that Jimmy Church and Mary Lou were sick the first of the week. Jackie Shores is out because of illness.
- This week at the Alamo: “Sorrowful Jones” starring Bob Hope and Lucille Ball and “That Forsyte Woman” starring Errol Flynn and Greer Garson.
1975
- Jodi Raines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Raines, was honored with a party for her 4th birthday. Fifteen children helped her celebrate.
- Senior Spotlights this week: Alice Marie Riley, and Rebecca and Catherine Coleman.
- Kay Miler ha completed graduation requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Iowa Wesleyan College.
- Jennifer Mae Hirschler and Edward Howard Anderson were married on Feb. 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
- Frank Burmaster and Jeff Wright had thank you notes published from their recent hospital stays.
2000
- The local Lions honored Milton Niggemeyer and G.A. Elliott for their work in the club.
- Obituaries this week: Jean Grove, John Winslow, Waneta Dielman, Trevis Howe, Maude Ekstrand, and Alden Fricke.
- Susan Wick, a senior at NLHS, attended Outstanding Scholar Recognition days at Central College in Pella.
- Rev. and Mrs. Matt Miller lost their son, Kurtus, 20, in an apartment fire in Iowa City. His wife Laura spent two days at University Hospitals before being released.
- Senior Interviews this week: Jessica Ort, Andrew Genkinger, Jeremy Hobbs, and Michala Alden.

- The City Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief John Chaney.
- Obituaries this week: Emmett Messer and Mary Lou Wilson.
- The 4th grade brought home the gold from the WMU Basketball League Tournament. Playing for New London were Weston Miller, Boden Pickle, Brodie Wenger, Bryce Peiffer, Evan Reed, Landyn Brown, Blaise Porter, Lucas Borton, Rylan Martin, Cason Edwards, Mavy Pope, Logan Gallup, Allen Bonnesen, Wyatt Miller, and Dakota Bennett,
