The hiring of a full-time SRO (School Resource Officer) is a decision that each school district has to consider. It’s a position that is the first defense against any dangerous situation that might arise at school. The New London district made the choice to make this a full-time position.
Preston Roberts is originally from Bloomfield, Iowa. He graduated high school there and then went to Central College to play football and baseball, and of course, study.
He and his family now call Mt. Pleasant home. He and his wife Makenzie are parents to son Julian and daughter Maklynn.
Roberts is now in his third year in law enforcement. He is excited to get started in his position at New London.
“I am excited to get started with the New London schools,” he said. “I hope to be able to use my former work with the youth and bridge the gap between the school and law enforcement, creating a better rapport with students, to help them understand that law enforcement is here to help. Everyone has been very welcoming and I am excited to have this opportunity.”
All of New London welcomes Preston and are very glad he is here to not only protect our kids, but also to show them how positive an experience with law enforcement can be.
