Meet the Players’ Night — A Great Way to Kick off School Year
By Gina Anderson
Aug. 29, 2024 12:00 am
On a warm, late summer night, school had started and so had Tiger sports. The evening, Aug. 23, commenced in the Charles Lorber Gym with New London’s brand-new cross-country team. These runners are the first to be solely the New London team, and they are being guided by Head Coach Bridget Swailes. Their first meet is Sept. 5 at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa against Pekin XC. Have a great season!
Coach Jackie Housman introduced this year’s volleyball team. She then put them through their paces as everyone looks to have an exciting competitive season. The FS VB has a round-robin on Aug. 27 at New London at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity’s first match is Sept. 5 at WACO high school at 5:30 p.m.
The football team was introduced by the voice of Tiger sports, Dan Berner, with the impressive Tiger roar in the background. They then scrimmaged Wapello with Head Coach Darrin Loyd carefully watching his boys tackle, pass, and kick. We have an impressive field goal kicker, a line that held its own, and a nimble quarterback. Let’s just keep everyone healthy because we don’t have players to spare. The football team’s first game is Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. They play Easton Valley.
As is always the case, the parking spots were quickly snapped up. What a great fundraiser for the football program.
The night was a wrap and a success. Hope to see good crowds at the games … no better way to support our kids!
