The New London Area Partnership (NLAP) is a new founded local nonprofit dedicated to fostering community and economic growth by supporting local businesses and organizations. Chelsea Boecker, President, was approached by Lori Streeter to help throw an event for the New London Youth Sports. Chelsea states we were looking for an event to showcase this new partnership that was created and then after a few meetings we all created this event. NLAP is a group of businesses, organizations and community members who want to make New London Thrive once again. We decided a Nonprofit partnership would be more beneficial than an actual chamber. We decided a partnership would be best for our little town!
This past weekend, the NLAP and LJ’s Tap House hosted a fun-filled community event with all proceeds going to support local youth sports. With the lovely ladies of Dover Museum hosting a fundraiser with a Free will Breakfast.
The festivities kicked off Friday evening with VFW tacos and a lively street dance on Main Street, featuring line dancing and live music from The BOYS. Attendees enjoyed the entertainment and a street dance with a $5 cover charge benefiting the cause. Thank you, to the local sponsors who helped fund the band; Southeast Iowa Sewer Services, Hummel Alden Contracting, Tyler & Mackenzie Shinkle, CropStar Consulting — Yarmouth, and Lorber Insurance Agency.
The excitement continued Saturday with Dover Day. The morning began with breakfast in the park, followed by sidewalk sales from local businesses and a variety of vendors in the park. Highlights included a bags tournament on Main, Worship in the park by New London Christian Church, a variety show, pet blessings by the New London Methodist Church, and an "All Wheels Welcome" cruise around the park.
Local businesses on Main Street, including The Guitar Farm, Simply Golden Designs, Mercedes Sweet Treats, Outlaw Tee, Sweet N Fit Skin & Salon, Evelyn's earrings and more, and Unique Boutique also opened their doors for sidewalk sales. A diverse group of vendors set up shop in the city park, offering everything from fresh sourdough bread and homemade candies to unique beaded pens and handcrafted apparel. The event concluded Saturday evening with a showing of the movie "Cars" in the park, complete with a box car-making station for kids and fun swag bags. Movie was sponsored by Sines RV, with Candy, 2 School Backpacks as a fun giveaway and CARS stickers by Helmerson Chiropractic and Swag bags by Integrity Builders.
The NLAP extends a huge thank you to all the community members, businesses, and vendors who participated and made this weekend a great success. Your support directly benefits local youth sports and the Dover Museum, helping to create a vibrant and thriving community for everyone.
Looking Ahead
The New London Area Partnership is growing and will be planning even more events for the community to enjoy. The NLAP is excited to announce that it will soon begin planning an Oktoberfest celebration, with all proceeds dedicated to fundraising for the new City park. Now is the time for New London to support New London! We need to show up and be in the now for our community! Thank you again for everyone's partnership on making this event possible.
