The New London Lions held an Open House at the Community Center on Monday, July 29. This small but mighty group provides many services for the community and school. The Lions’ vision is to be leaders in community and humanitarian service. The New London group works hard supporting vision screenings and the Tiger pantry as well as other community needs. This past year when the tornado tore through northwest New London, they added a new project. The members stay abreast of the needs of the citizens of New London.
On Monday, checks were presented to the H.J. Nugen Library supporting the Summer Reading program and Burge Cemetery to replant trees destroyed by the tornado. Jesse Howard accepted the check and gave an update on the progress at the cemetery. Special notice was given to the new members. Everyone gave a big smile when they observed these volunteers had no gray hair!
Junior Willians, a charter member of the original group, visited about the slight mix-up in dates. The club was to be formed in November 1973, but did not receive its charter until June 23, 1974. It seems one member of the group was late in signing the proper papers.
The next fundraiser will be the weekend before Old Threshers! Watch for the announcement and plan to attend. The New London Lions definitely live the motto of the Lions — WE SERVE.
