Fifth grade teacher Karen Hertel Engberg said it best, “We have the BEST PTO. They do so many great things for our kids and school!”
It won’t be long until school is out for the summer! The Carnival held Friday, May 10 is a traditional end of year event and concludes a long list of activities the PTO holds each year. In fact, on their Facebook page, a message to the community reminds everyone Back to School Night is just around the corner and has been placed on the planning list.
The weather cooperated and many families returned to school for the evening. DeLovely’s Delicious Donuts, Cynful Smokers BBQ, and Mac’s2 were available for dinners and snacks. Many activities were provided by local groups: Iowa National Guard - Cody Vantiger- lumberjack game; Lorber Insurance- Football Toss; Masters Parlor- Facepainting; HJ Nugen Library- Giant coloring page and wheel spinner game; The Filling Station Youth- 9-Square, Grand Prize Game, Inflatables; 4H Lassies- spin art bike;
TAG kids made cardboard arcade style games; PTO made slushies, popcorn, and cotton candy for sale; Boy Scouts- Josh Schumacher- Rain Gutter Regatta; Henry County Sheriff's and New London Police Department, Sheriff McNamee, Lt. Bell, SRO Lopez, and Officer Sines; and New London Jet Stop- Fishing Game. Prizes were donated by Walmart Distribution in Mount Pleasant. Rollie Blint supplied his wagon train for PTO use. Joe White was the driver. We are not sure who enjoyed it most – the staff as they got it ready or the children who later rode it around the football field.
The incredible team of Becky Kracht, Bridget Swailes, Todd Palmatier, Dawn Dines and Liz Kuckler worked and planned tirelessly to ensure the Carnival was amazing. Seeing so many families together and having a blast made all the work worthwhile. Stephen Kin said it best.“Don't let the sun go down without saying thank you to someone, and without admitting to yourself that absolutely no one gets this far alone.” The sun is still up! THANK YOU to our PTO team and our equally incredible community.
The school year ends for students on May 31 and school year 2024-25 begins August 23. PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. Many volunteers are needed for the events. Strong parent involvement and support is needed to keep New London Schools operating at the high level the community desires. Please plan to volunteer and help out next school year.
