The New London School Board met in regular session on Sept. 18, 2023 with all members present except Tim Myers.
The annual meeting was taken up first. Jessica Boyer gave the Board an update on different funds and their balances in the certified annual report. The school has ended the year with a positive balance in the special education fund. This money will be spent on the special education students.
The annual transportation report was next. The cost per mile is now $0.66 up from $0.58 per mile last year. Superintendent Wahls and the Transportation Director will develop a five-year plan for replacing vehicles.
The Board approved setting bank depository limits of $3,000,000 at the Danville State Savings Bank and approved continuing the UMB money market account.
No one addressed the Board in open forum, and they approved an amended agenda and the consent agenda. The consent agenda included several fundraisers. The groups being approved for the fundraisers included MS/HS student councils, HS cheerleading, and Performing Arts.
The Board heard reports from various people. They first heard from the student ambassador about Homecoming plans.
The Superintendent then discussed the meeting with the IHSAA. The varsity football program will continue, but the JV program has been canceled. Wahls informed the Board that the final walk-through of the new gym will occur this week. The fire marshal will also have a final walk-through so the building can be released to full use. He related that the SRO (officer) is in place. Teachers will soon begin receiving safety training.
The final reports were from both principals. They gave back-to-school updates and upcoming events.
In Board business, they approved the following:
•Agriculture/FFA Class Sharing with Danville CSD.
•Approved Resolution Ordering Election of the Question of Continuing to Levy and Impose a Voter Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Property Tax and Income Surtax.
•Approved Resolution Approving Revenue Purpose Statement to Authorize Expenditures from Revenue Received from the State, Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund, and Ordering the Publication of a Notice of Election.
•Personnel: Resignations — Cheryl Berner/Sp. Education Associate. Appointments — Damon Loyd — .5FTE Asst. Middle School FB Coach; Joe Garvey — Weight Room Supervisor; and Sullivan Bain — Student Custodian @ $10/hr.
The Board then went into closed session. Coming out of closed session, the meeting adjourned. The next regular meeting of the New London School Board will be Oct. 16, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the North Campus Board Room.
