New London School Board Reviewed 2025-2026 School Year
Coaching Staff Almost Complete

The regular meeting of the New London school board was held on May 19, 2025. Board members Becky Hays and Lindsay Porter were absent. The board approved the agenda and the consent agenda that included minutes of the previous meeting, financial reports, and claims. No one addressed the board in open forum.
It is school board recognition this month. Superintendent Wahls presented each board member with a certificate and a gift bag.
Reports started with Superintendent Wahls. He discussed teacher appreciation week which culminated in a luncheon for all the teachers and staff. At the end of the school year, years of service to the district will be recognized. Joe White — 35 years and Tammy Olson-Riley and Kari McAllister move into retirement.
Secondary Principal Kracht reported on graduation, the sixth grade campout, the eighth grade trip, and senior celebration week. Student schedules will be sent out to parents the beginning of June and then finalized.
Elementary Principle Palmatier agreed that it has been a busy few weeks. He gave kudos to the PTO for the job they did with the carnival. Preschool graduation was changed to the evening and was well-attended.
In personnel, the board approved the resignation of Caleb Haeffner — Assistant HS boys basketball coach. In appointments, the board approved the following:
- Haley James — elementary teacher
- Shayla Seils — 7-12 Ag/FFA instructor
- Jess Swanson — Head HS boys basketball coach
- Ben Fry — Assistant HS football coach
- Fall/winter schedule B positions
- Taran VanAmerongen — summer custodian
- Gavin Menke-Bailey — summer weight room supervisor
Coaching positions that yet need filled: Asst. HS boys basketball coach; MS head boys and girls cross-country coach; and Asst. MS boys basketball coach.
Board business started with lunch prices. They approved $4.97 for adult meal prices from $4.80.
The 2025 — 2026 meeting dates and times were approved. They were left on the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m.
The funding to the Great Prairie AEA has had changes. The school gets 10% of those funds to support in-house special ed. expenses while the AEA gets 90%. All the money comes to the district and they are responsible to get the AEA their share. They approved a contract with GPAEA to transfer the special ed. funds.
They approved new criteria for seniors wanting to take college classes under senior year plus.
The Board went into exempt session. When they returned to open session, they took the following action:
- Approved the 2025-2026 master contract certified employees with a 2.8% increase on the base.
- Approved 2025-2026 non-certified & administration salary increase of a combination of 50c per hour/2.8%.
- Approved 2025-2026 beginning wage schedule for hourly employees @ $14.50 per hour.
The board was reminded that they will receive the Superintendent’s paperwork through Simbli (an online program) to complete his job evaluation in the next week or two.
The next regular meeting of the New London School Board will be June 16, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the north campus boardroom.
