NEW LONDON — A new chapter in agricultural education is beginning at New London School as the district proudly announces the launch of an Agricultural Education and FFA program beginning the 2025—2026 school year. This exciting development is the result of months of hard work and collaboration by a newly formed nonprofit 501c(3), New London Ag Foundation.
The New London Ag Foundation’s Board of Directors — made up of Angie Syfert, Tracy Lair, Julie Fitzpatrick, Julie Brown, Erin Garvey, Sara Sammons and Jason Denning — has been the driving force behind bringing this program to life. The group has worked tirelessly to secure funding and resources to ensure students have access to hands-on, career-ready agricultural education.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our students and our community,” said Committee Member Tracy Lair. “Agriculture is a vital part of our local economy and culture. We’re excited to give students the tools to explore that world right here at school.”
Through generous pledges and contributions from local individuals and businesses, community partners and corporations in the Ag community, the foundation has pledged to cover half of the program’s cost for its first three years. After that, the New London School District will assume full responsibility for funding the program, and the Foundation’s continued efforts will offer support for the New London FFA chapter’s activities and events.
Beginning in the upcoming school year, all 7th and 8th grade students will take part in an exploratory agriculture class designed to introduce them to the basics of Ag Education. High school students (grades 9—12) will have the opportunity to enroll in a wide range of courses, including:
- Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR)
- Ag Business
- Ag Marketing
- Animal Science I
- Survey of the Animal Industry
- Plant Science
- Introduction to Crop Science
- Ag Communications
- Food Products and Processing Systems
“We believe this program will offer valuable skills and open doors for students interested in a wide range of careers — from agribusiness and communications to animal science and food production,” said Mr. Kracht MS/HS Principal.
With a strong foundation of community support and a forward-thinking curriculum, the new Ag/FFA program promises to enrich the educational experience at New London and strengthen ties between the school and the local agricultural community along with opportunities for the students to develop leadership skills, build character and learn citizenship skills through participation in the FFA program.
“This is just the beginning,” added the entire foundation’s board. “We’re building something that will serve students for years to come.”
