Friday, Sept. 8, the New London sixth graders walked the short distance from the Middle School to Dover Museum for a field trip into the past.
They were greeted by museum volunteers Caroline Lehman, Gale Riley, Jill McCabe and Diane Pickle.
There are two sections of sixth grade and each group came to the museum during their class period.
The short field trip is packed with activity. Each section was divided in half.
The first half went directly to the area behind the museum.
Two washtubs were set up with many artifacts layered in them. The artifacts are real. They were all found in one of the creeks west of New London.
The second half remained in the display area where two activities were ready.
Mr. Bence held a stopwatch on the proceedings. Halfway through the field trip, the groups changed positions.
Everyone got a chance to search for artifacts.
The last activity reunited the groups. Each student brought a favorite item they had uncovered.
As each artifact was displayed, the students described what they thought it may have been. Many interesting observations and thoughts were shared.
