The Tigers finished up their season against a tough Pella Christian team on Monday, July 7, 2025. The Eagles did the only scoring in the game in the second and third innings. The score was 11-to-0 as the Tigers finished 3-21.
Kylea Schwenker, Shaylee Brothersen, Olivia Hester, and Lena Nelson each went 1-for-2 batting. Schwenker, Brothersen, and Hester each hit a single, and Nelson hit a double. Schwenker was the losing pitcher. Great effort ladies…you never gave up!
Baseball
Saturday, July 5, 2025 found the Tigers at home to face the Wapello Indians in the first round of the tournament. The Indians scored once in the first inning and the Tigers scored four…game over. This wasn’t a slam dunk for the Tigers, they had to work for the win.
As Memphis Watson felt comfortable on the mound, sparks flew. He struck out three batters and catcher Tate Welcher put out a runner trying to steal against him. To end the fourth inning, the Tigers went from Watson to Gavin Menke-Bailey to Sully Barron to shut down the Indians.
The game started to turn with a walk for Gage Burden and a steal of second. Riley Raines hit a single as Barron broke the game’s tie with an RBI. Tigers lead 2-1. The Tigers secured the 4-1 win with a Raines RBI single soring Kye Reighard. They will face Notre Dame for the third time, now tied at one win apiece.
On July 8th, still playing on their home field, the Tigers beat the Nikes 8-5. Tate Welcher and Gage Burden each had multiple hits and both had two RBIs. Gavin Menke-Bailey went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a pitching save.
On July 12th, New London was the home team against Pekin for the District 10 Championship played at Sigourney High School. It proved to be a heartbreaker as the Tigers were defeated 2-to-1. The Tigers finished their season with a 15-10 record. There were no individual stats at press time, but they gave it all they had. This will be the season that the boys and their fans will always remember…thanks for the memories!
Thanks to both teams for an exciting summer!
