The New London Utilities Trustees held their regular meeting on Oct. 3, 2024 with all members present. They approved the agenda and the consent agenda. No one addressed the trustees in open forum.
In old business, the trustees addressed the purchasing of an additional fuel tank to increase the reserve capacity. The trustees decided to wait until they can plan for this purchase in their budget and also have the time to review their five-year plan.
In new business, they took the following actions:
- Approved Resolution #1455 authorizing the city clerk to transfer funds for FY 2025.
- Approved Resolution #156 increasing the wage of the utility billing clerk to $26.50 per hour.
- Accepted the resignation of Kasi Howard as the city clerk and treasurer position effective on Oct. 18, 2024.
The hiring process for Howard’s position was discussed. They will review the applications and participate with the city council in interviews. Mayor Miller stated that he would like the two positions to cross-train so they are more aware of each position’s job duties.
The trustees discussed purchasing a lift assist for climbing the wind turbine. As it ages, it will require more repair, which means the employees will be climbing it more often. The trustees would like to purchase it as soon as the foreman can get a price on the lift and installation.
They then heard from utility foreman Dave Ford. His report outlined what the utility workers had accomplished through the month. It included several items. Among them were the repair of wind turbine #1 for a pitch issue; repair of a broken water main on Kennedy St.; and replacement of a fire hydrant on S. Cottonwood St.
The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. The next Utility Board meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the city office.
