Sep. 19, 2024 12:00 am
The New London Utility Trustees met on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 in regular session with all members present at the city office. They approved the agenda and the consent agenda and no one was present for open forum.
In old business, they continued a discussion of the benefits of purchasing an additional diesel fuel tank. It would increase the fuel reserve capacity and allow them to accept a full tanker of fuel from the supplier. This allows generation during the hottest days of summer when called upon by Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) or when there are outages due to bad weather.
The quote from Kay Tank Corp. for an 8,600 gallon, double wall tank is $39,553.50. To ensure adequate diesel fuel supply for emergencies, they plan to approve the quote from Kay Tank Corp. at their next meeting.
In new business, they approved reinvesting water funds ($48,635) and electric funds ($119,210) in CDs at the Danville State Savings Bank for 182 days at 4.75% for CDs under $100,000 and 5.00% for CDs over $100,000.
They approved making an additional deposit of $4,000 into the joint partial self-funded insurance to cover employee health claims. This deposit is pending the city council’s approval of their portion of $6,000.
The trustees discussed the Resale Power Group of Iowa (RPGI) meeting that was held on Aug. 22, 2024. They felt that it was well-attended by various interested parties. They also discussed the Right of First Refusal (ROFR) bill that was passed and how it would impact RPGI and competitive bidding process for construction of electric transmission lines in the state of Iowa.
The trustees then heard the foreman’s report. Highlights included flushing fire hydrants, removal and trimming of trees, trencher and pickup maintenance, annual testing of diesel generation and running of diesel generators, and repair work.
The meeting adjourned at 1:25 p.m. The next Utility Board meeting is Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the City Office.
