The Eighth Grade Recognition ceremony was held May 26. Relatives and friends filled the auditorium patiently waiting for the students. Emma DeHart, Paislee Owens, Hailey Deterding and Cole Swanson were the Sixth and Seventh grade distributed programs to the audience. Brandin Dusenberry, Jeremiah Haynes, Sydney Kracht, Madelynn Nelson, Riley Raines and Lane Stauffer worked long and hard creating the program and making decisions for the ceremony. Finally, the class entered and sat in their reserved seats at the front of the auditorium.
The introduction song, “7 Years by Lukas Graham, speaks of advice given and events throughout a life. The students are already thinking about setting out on their life adventures. Mr. Kracht welcomed everyone and introduced the class video. Abigail Denny created the video featuring every student. Some had created a short video about an event in their life and others opted for a photo. All in all this is a very handsome class of students.
Recognition events were both traditional and academic. Mrs. Sharp announced the Giving and Receiving of the Spoon. Mr. Bence presented the Presidential Achievement Award. Students recognized for being on the Honor Roll for five semesters were: Sydney Kracht, Ethan Prichard, Riley Raines, Trayton Schuster, Jonathan Sharp, and Taylin Swailes. Four students achieved High Honors for five semesters: Abigail Cumpton, Abigail Denney, Wyatt Mangold, and Madelynn Nelson.
Finally the moment arrived when each student walked across the stage to received their certificates of recognition for completing the eighth grade. Children are required to attend school from ages 6 to 16 but the New London eighth-graders are already looking at high school graduation and possible educational opportunities beyond. The exit song chosen, Legends are Made by Sam Tinnesz, makes that very clear. Sam’s lyrics describe these young man and women — “I’m steppin’ into fate; There is no time to waste; I’ve got that lightnin’ inside me!”
