New London’s Dover Historical Society board met June 23 with many items discussed. In two days, our first Sunday program will be given by Mt. Pleasant resident, Curt Swarm.
A man of many talents, it is hard to say for which he is best known, but you may have read his newspaper column, attended his writing class, read his books, or for sure, noticed his metal sculptures north of the west bound lane of Hwy. 34, east of Mt. Pleasant in his yard.
A grant for floor covering in the new display area was received from the Henry County Historic Preservation Commission. Thank you! Painting will need to be completed before the floor can be done.
The window repair work has begun with more to do when the glass company can schedule it and the weather cooperates. Not too cold, not too hot, not raining, not too windy.
If you have not seen the photos on Facebook of museum items and displays, give it a try! Many comments have been made by viewers, near and far. Ana Lair will “keep them coming.” Stop in and see these in person!
Several class reunions will be visiting Dover in the coming months. If your club, family, class, etc. would like a tour, call 319-367-2573 and leave a message. Regular open days will change from Saturday and Sunday, to only Sunday for the months of August, September, and October.
Breakfast will be served at the museum the morning of July 29 which is New London Fun Day. Activities will follow throughout the day in the park.
If you are a history buff, you will be interested in Dover’s next program on July 16. Presented by museum director Darlene Lutes, it follows New London’s involvement in WWI from information written in the 1917 New London Journals.
