New Shelter House Coming to Lowell Stevenson Park

Save the date July 11 — your help is needed. John Smyth of the New London Tigers Shooting Sports Team was contacted by the Friends of Henry County Conservation. The trap team has been asked to help with building a new shelter house at the park in Lowell. The 4H/FFA groups have been contacted as well.
John stated, “Not only is this a great learning experience for the kids, but also an amazing way to show our appreciation to the organizations that help support us.”
A time on July 11 has not been announced yet but he is asking for those willing to help to let him know. Food and drinks will be provided, so numbers are important.
The Friends of Henry County Conservation has a number of important projects going on. Work is already underway at Stevenson Park in Lowell. Dave Beaber of Skunk River Concrete is placing the concrete. Plans for the shelter are ready to go! The focus of the Friends of Henry County Conservation group is on education and conservation. The group feels we all have a responsibility to protect and build on our future in these wonderful area.
Lowell, Iowa is located in Baltimore Township, Henry County. It has a rich history and checkered history. As one of the earliest settlements in southeast Iowa, founded in 1834 its inn and stage stop was well known on the Agency Road. The waterpower of the river helped develop many industries. The renewed interest in recognizing Lowell as an important part of Henry County history is welcome.
