The New London City Council met in regular session on March 11, 2024 at 6 p.m. with all members present and Travis Benz joining by phone. They approved the agenda and the consent agenda.
There was a public hearing on two separate items. There were no citizens questions or comments and these items were approved.
Ordinance #78 amending provisions pertaining to the collection of fees for garbage pick up with the new company effective July 1.
Resolution #420 — Approved and authorized an agreement between the City and Johnson Homes, Inc. for the purchase, sale, and development agreement in real property in the S Pine Street Urban Renewal Area.
Mayor Miller made the Council aware of recent water damage to the police station. A hot water heater broke. It has been turned into insurance. The damaged material has been removed and Nehring Construction is doing the repairs.
The Council then turned to old business. Council Member Scott Campbell has some concerns about the contract language with Waste Management for sanitation services over the next three years. The Council, feeling the concerns are valid, will have the City attorney review the agreement before approval.
The Council received an update on the sale of the commercial property. Mayor Miller and Councilmen Berner and Helmerson met with the prospective buyer and the conversation is ongoing. The City will continue to work on grading the land and having Mediacom and Windstream lower their facilities in the right of way.
They then turned to new business and took the following actions:
Approved the resignation of Craig Nelson from the Utility Board effective immediately.
Approved the appointment of Dan Heater to the Utility Board filling a vacancy with a term ending Nov. 30, 2027.
The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m. The next regular meeting of the New London City Council will be April 8, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall.
