NL Teacher honored by Iowa High School Music Association

Arnie Anderson, instrumental music teacher for the New London Community School District will be honored with the Iowa High School Music Association's Teacher Tenure Award. Mr. Anderson will receive the award at this year's IHSMA All-State festival. The award will be presented to Arnie before the All-State Concert on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
The award honors Mr. Anderson for thirty years of teaching in the southeast Iowa area. He began his career teaching 5-12 instrumental music in 1994 with the Burlington Area Catholic Schools. 9966, he began teaching music in New London with Ron Coberley, Tracy Williams and the late Dottie Moehlman. Mr. Anderson has remained in New London. He is currently the 6-12 Director of bands as well as the 3-5 general music teacher.
The 78th annual Iowa All-State Music Festival will be held at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. The festival features the All-State Band, All-State Chorus, and All-State Orchestra. Leaders in music education from across the nation are asked to teach and lead the large group selections. This year’s Directors are: All-State Band — Dr. Rebecca Phillips, Colorado State University; All-State Chorus — Dr. Jeffery Ames, Belmont University; and All-State Orchestra — Dr. Kayoko Dan, Sam Houston State University. The concerts are televised and later videos from PBS are available on the internet. The award ceremonies are also tape for streaming.
