The New London community again rises to the occasion. NLCSD and Filling Station students with the help of their families collected two truckloads worth of canned items for the Tiber Food Pantry and the traditional Thanksgiving baskets prepared by the school district. Additionally many dollars were donated by caring individuals and organizations. The Technical Writing Class and the Student Council have stepped forward and helped with the planning and logistics.
Laurie Jo McBeth exclaimed, “These kids are awesome. They were so full of energy and seemed to really enjoy their mission.”
The Filling Station Youth Group from the New London Christian Church visited houses throughout town to collect non-perishable food donations. Participating households left the porch light on so the young people knew where to stop.
NLCSD’s Red Ribbon Week involved student K-12. At Clark, students got “tickets” for food items. The results show at the PAW meter in the hallway. Enough tickets were collected to meet to mystery fun events to keep the school year going at a great pace. Many NLMS/HS students help with unloading the Pantry trucks twice a month. They continued this tradition as they unloaded the pickup trucks.
Kudos go to New London’s popular and hardworking SRO, Preston Roberts. He is everywhere lending his support and help — including a pie in the face at the Clark assembly.
Laurie Jo concluded by saying “The Tiger Food Pantry cannot do what we do without the help of so many. Thank you to the kids, to the adults who are teaching them to be community-minded and to our community for digging into their own supplies and making lives better. You all are wonderful and such a blessing.” Make a special note to thank the NLCSD teachers and staff as well.
