NLHS Tiger sports roundup

On April 25, it was another last for the Senior class on Senior Night at their only home track meet. Senior Boys were Boden Pickle, Kade Benjamin, Rylan Martin, Cauy Garrett, Tiane Cam, and Korbin Swenson. Senior Girls were Alexandra Farley, Liberty Henderson, Reeves Jacobs, Kaitlyn Lee, Amanda Shane, and Ines Veschembes. They will all be missed!

Girls’ Results

It was time for New London’s lone high school track meet on April 25. Named after long-time teacher and coach, Chris Selby, it drew a large crowd to town. Following are individual results that placed and/or were a runner’s personal record (PR).

•100m - Naomi Haynes - 5th - 14.91 (PR).

•200m - Izebella Dusenberry - 15th - 37.59 (PR).

•1500m - Taryn Owens - 8th - 6:38.17 (PR); Amanda Shane - 11th - 8:34.81 (PR).

•4x100m Relay - Liberty Henderson, Dusenberry, Ines Veschembes, Miah Phillips - 4th - 1:06.75.

•4x200m Relay - Tysann Gipple, Veschembes, Haynes, Kennedy Herrick - 3rd - 2:08.40.

As a team, the boys finished 5th with 58 points. Individual race results follow:

On April 27, both teams competed in the Ekstrand Relays in Wayland. As a team, they finished 7th. Individual results for the girls:

Golf

Friday, April 28, the Tigers played the W-MU Wolves at Deerwood. The girls won 359 to 448. Taylor Phillips carded a 78 to earn medalist honors. Sophie Malott scored an 84, Emma Busby (91), Emma Nye (106), Stevie Wintermeyer (114) and Izzy Nye (118).

The boys also won 376 to 381. Mason Shelledy shot an 84 to take medalist honors for the Tigers. Wyatt Miller fired an 86, Coen Fitzpatrick (100), Vegas Watson (104), and Sully Barron (117).

Earlier in the week, the Tigers played Mediapolis at Heritage Oaks. The boys lost 188 to 174. The girls won their match, 186 to 213.

Soccer

On April 27, the Mt. Pleasant girls team stomped Keokuk 10-0. Elly Manning scored a goal.
