NLHS Tigers Sports Round Up

JH Boys Basketball
West Burlington came to town to take on the Tigers on Jan. 29. The seventh grade played hard and kept it close, but in the end lost 36-39. Kellan Porter had 26 points to pace the team. John Gallup added five. Zane Long scored three and Reed Lindsey added two.
The eighth grade won a hard-fought battle against WB, 40 — 37. The Tigers were led by Cole Swanson who drained 12. Dylan Burden added nine and Jaece Deterding and Gavin Strawhacker each had eight. Owen Severson rounded out the scoring with three.
The Tigers next traveled to Burlington on Feb. 1 to play the Notre Dame Nikes. The seventh grade faced a tough opposing team and suffered a 34 — 25 loss. Kellan Porter had 17. Reed Lindsey and John Gallup each had three and Linken Welcher finished with two.
The eighth grade kept their streak alive with a 38 — 27 victory against the Nikes. Gavin Strawhacker led the Tigers with 12. Dylan Burden finished with eight. Owen Severson, Cole Swanson, and Jaece Deterding each added six. Way to finish Tigers!!!
Girls Varsity Basketball
Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Tigers faced the Notre Dame Nikes. The Tigers played hard, but were outscored all four quarters with the final score NL/27 to ND/72. Mylee Miller led the Tigers with 14 points and six rebounds. Morgan Jones pulled down 10 rebounds and added three points. Olivia Hester and Kayla Strawhacker each scored five. Megan Lee had two rebounds.
The Tigers played Hillcrest Academy in the SEISC shootout on Feb. 1 at L & M high school. The Tigers outscored the Ravens in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Tigers lost 39 — 60. Senior Sophie Malott led the Tigers with 16. Mylee Miller was close behind with 14 points plus nine rebounds. Kayla Strawhacker had three points plus two rebounds. Shay Wilka added two as did Morgan Jones and Megan Lee.
Boys Varsity Basketball
The team had their work cut out for them against the Nikes, and the final score was 38 to 73. Carter Benjamin and Brendan Richey led the scoring with 11 each. London Franklin had eight points and four rebounds. Brigham Porter added five points, three rebounds, and three steals. Memphis Watson had three points, four rebounds, and four assists.
Davis County came to town on Feb. 1, and left with a win. The halftime advantage was 34 to 17. The damage was done in the first half as the Tigers played the Mustangs even in the second half. The final was 64 to 42
Carter Benjamin and Memphis Watson led the Tigers with nine each. Watson added 12 rebounds and three steals. Brendan Richey had six points and five assists. The Franklin brothers each had eight with London having 12 rebounds. Brigham Porter had two points and seven rebounds.
The boys’ SEISC shootout was Feb. 2, with the Tigers hosting. The Tigers got off to a fast start with a 20-point first quarter. The final score was NL/57 — Columbus/46.
Brigham Porter had a 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Tigers. London Franklin was right behind with 17 points and nine rebounds. Brendan Richey added nine points and four rebounds. Memphis Watson scored seven and pulled down 10 rebounds. Carter Benjamin added three but led the team in rebounding with 12.
Tate Welcher returned from an injury and gave the Tigers solid minutes with three points and two assists. Good to have you back Tate!
