Our hard-working BRAVE librarians held the first round of Nerf Wars. If the event is successful there will be more. The new Clark gymnasium held cardboard boxes for protection or places to lie in wait for your victim.
Miss Brittney looked elegant behind a cardboard shield as she helped monitor the fun. Participants were to bring their own Nerf gun. They had to be capable of shooting the small dart bullets. The library managed to obtain a few guns for children who did not have one so the entire community could participate.
Since one could not identify individual bullets, the library supplied all the ammunition. Students could also bring drinks and snacks. Students were required to register. Phone numbers were an important part of the games. Protective eye gear was provided at registration and all precautions were taken to prevent injury.
There is always a chance that a parent or guardian would need to be notified of an issue. There were two sessions on the Clark battlefield. From 3-5 p.m., students grade 5 and younger had their competition. Teens gathered 6-8 p.m. for their war.
Observing the fun makes one believe this will become a standard summer activity.
